THE CHRONOLOGY OF WATER: Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut is an expansive, evocative work of cinematic poetry with a career-best performance by Imogen Poots. It's a formally ambitious vision that shows Stewart has got the stuff 📽️

My #Cannes2025 review: www.thewrap.com/the-chronolo...
A still from Kristen Stewart's THE CHRONOLOGY OF WATER with Imogen Poots standing alone by a body of water before going swimming.

“‘The Chair Company,’ the latest hilarious and more than a little horrifying vision from the comedic maniac that is Tim Robinson, which is also his most bonkers, brilliant work yet, is not only about chairs.”

This Sunday on HBO.

THE CHAIR COMPANY: Tim Robinson makes another hilarious, rather horrifying series with his expressive acting rivaling the best work of Jim Carrey. It's a show as astute as it is anarchic, proving to be the chaotic conspiracy story for our time 📺

Tim Robinson holding up a phone to his ear while pointing at it with a perplexed expression on his face in a still from THE CHAIR COMPANY.

KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN: Jennifer Lopez dances her heart out and relative newcomer Tonatiuh is a revelatory discovery, but the rest of this musical never rises to meet them. Lovely costumes, shame about the forgettable songs and choreography 📽️

My review: www.thewrap.com/kiss-of-the-...
Jennifer Lopez wearing a white suit and hat smoking a cigarette with her arms slightly crossed while a beam of light shines down on her in a still from Kiss of the Spider Woman.

HOUSE OF DYNAMITE: Kathryn Bigelow’s nuclear war drama is interesting on paper, but empty in execution, peaking in the middle before crashing down at the end. Instead of truly staring down annihilation, Bigelow blinks. Rebecca Ferguson innocent 📽️

My review: www.inlander.com/screen/revie...
A review from The Inlander's print screen section with the headline No Fighting in the War Room and the subhead Kathryn Bigelow's A House of Dynamite takes on nuclear annihilation and goes up in smoke with a still of Rebecca Ferguson wearing a blue suit in a control room with a bunch of screens showing the end behind her as she talks on a phone.

New: In a note to staff this morning, New CBS EIC Bari Weiss asked everyone across CBS News to send her a memo by next Tuesday explaining how they spend their workday and what’s working/not working…

News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."

One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."

AFTERNOON UPDATE: Seattle Central College told me, in regards to the current status of the historic building that is now the former home of the SIFF Cinema Egyptian, "repairs began immediately and are now complete. We had to dry the theater out, replace the ceiling and repaint.” 📽️

BREAKING: The SIFF Egyptian, the historic and beloved Capitol Hill movie theater, will not be reopening. After decades of bringing movie magic to Seattle audiences, the space will now permanently conclude operations under SIFF 📽️

Los Angeles Times journalists voted to authorize a strike by a large margin in hopes to reach a new contract with management on Thursday. A strike has not yet been scheduled, but the vote gives the Guild’s leadership authority to call for a work stoppage.

You are not the first person to wonder about that! Won't speak for the lovely folks @grandillusioncinema.org, but would be very curious to hear any perspectives/insights have about this from anyone who has anything they'd like to share over DM here or at my email [email protected]

my first screening at the Egyptian was a sparsely-attended AMERICAN PSYCHO, where I saw it for the first time and launched my fascination into the sadistic -- both on and off the screen.

this is awful news. a real loss for the community, to be frank

the last film I saw there was I SAW THE TV GLOW with Jane Schoenbrun introducing the film and a Q&A afterwards. it hollowed me out. the next day everything hit me and I cried for a solid 15 minutes in my car with everything that hit me.

Oh! I actually got to watch the first couple of eps of the Cyberpunk anime in advance at this theatre a couple of years ago. It's absolutely beautiful & cool as Hell. This sucks so much.

It was a thrill for this still-pretty-green PR pro to lead the 2014 opening night announcement of SIFF's lease of the Egyptian. So many backstage and movie-going memories. We can't do without these movie temples. It will be heartbreaking if this building gets repurposed. 📽️
