in general, the moment after a surprising, decisive victory seems like the time to study why that person won, not to lecture them on how they theoretically could have won better

There are 50,000 food insecure children in Maine and 2 trans athletes. Every single candidate running for office who can drum up concern about the latter but has nothing to say about the former is telling on themselves. They don’t care about children. Only power. And they’ll hurt kids for it.
25 Nov 2025 @rikiwilchins.bsky.social -- In unusual move, Sen Susan Collins (R-ME) signs petition for referendum on the 2026 ballot that would bar trans students from sports teams, locker-rooms and bathrooms. She's in a hotly contested election & this is pbly one way to increase Rep turnout.

bumping -- I loved TRAIN DREAMS and its dual depiction of our broad irrelevance and specific responsibilities so so much. would appreciate it if you gave it a read --
I wrote about the beautiful TRAIN DREAMS, and how one change from its source material turns the film into a timely argument against complicity, inaction, and ignoring crimes done to our neighbors, esp. when they look different from us. SPOILERS. @vulture.com:

yeah, when I talked to him for S1 he phrased it similarly. I think he spoke with kathryn about it more in depth but there is definitely a "the divide is vast" sense about what happened there and how each side will contextualize what went down.

It's not just "consumer smart" it reduces environmental waste, key materials are often mined in slave conditions. The whole tenor of the article is wrong - why is the economy so dependent on us engaging in mass waste?

love udo kier's work in BACURAU and THE SECRET AGENT so much. completely oppositional performances and completely oppositional characters. kleber knew what he was doing casting kier.
Two great against-type Udo Kier performances worth checking out: As a middle-class revolutionary getting cucked by his own father in Fassbinder's The Third Generation, and a one-scene turn as a Holocaust survivor in this year's The Secret Agent.

Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.

My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

stages of thanksgiving prep, as I am midway thru:
- find recipe online, get excited
- go to Costco, loathe my choices, regret not getting a hot dog to go
- decide what movie or TV show to put on in the background while I do kitchen shit
-- 5 hours later --
- still have no decision about to watch
November 23, 2025 at 3:11 AM
It was so astonishingly boring. The end result was that unfortunately I too like the characters in the movie gave absolutely zero fucks about the dinosaurs

Barack Obama said he wanted to look forward and not relitigate the crimes of the Bush administration regarding torture and Guantanamo Bay. That allowed for the drone war to proliferate and for even more expansion of executive power under Trump.
There are going to be prominent Democrats and mainstream media voices who insist that we have to "turn the page" and "forgive and forget" and they should all be roundly ignored, if not mercilessly mocked.
It’s crazy to think about the crimes we’re going to learn about after this regime ends.

We’re already hearing about Watergate level crimes every week. Imagine what will come out after it’s over.

We’re going to need a full accounting of all that’s been done in violation of the constitution.

we bought beautiful lovely cozy flannel sheets like a decade ago and only used them for one winter because global warming, baby! Maryland winters no longer get nearly cold enough to justify them. sad because again: so goddamn cozy
As someone who runs hot and loves flannel, I’m coming to the sad conclusion that flannel works TOO well, omg. 🥵

I get cold, put on my flannel pajamas and then I’m drenched in sweat and standing in front of an open window. (Part of this is a side effect of my SSRI, so I’m like a sentient heat lamp.)
