Fascinating by the idea of someone who had never consumed anything made by Tim Robinson randomly deciding to watch THE CHAIR COMPANY thinking it’s like, a normal HBO crime show

If you’re a journalist who’s still on Twitter, from now on in your writing you have to replace “the American people want” with “troll bots in Eastern Europe demand”

Being there makes your judgment suspect. I don’t care how savvy you think you are, you’re marinating in a disinformation campaign.

If more leaders knew how to play Bach music this would be a better country, i am absolutely convinced of it (also this is wonderful)

Simultaneously working on BWDR essays for The Long Day Closes and the recent Naked Gun movie & just had a thought that I should try to combine them into one essay and it’s such a terrible idea that now i’m absolutely obsessed by it

Maybe my best skill as a middle schooler & teenager was making mix tapes for people and the best one I ever made was the one I gave a girl across the hall from me in the dorm my freshman year who was also in my psych 101 class. In a few months, we’ll be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary
My favorite piece of content today.

Washington's Alex Buck goes over half the length of the field and 1v2 against the Arkansas defense to net the golden goal winner.

TEN MONTHS IN:

The national debt is higher.

The trade deficit is wider.

The inflation rate has worsened.

The unemployment rate is up.

Easily one of my favorite interviews of all time, including everything that happens before the interview even starts (and how much she hates the rug) and how it casually slides into a deep & fascinating conversation that lets you experience so many layers of Hepburn in such a real way
Or convincing Katharine Hepburn to give her very first TV interview—which she decided to do on the spot, with no audience, while visiting the set “to check things out to see how it looked and felt…and then she surprised me by suddenly saying, ‘Why don’t we just go ahead and do it now?’ And we did.”

This is wonderful, and I think quite often how very different my life would be if I hadn’t obsessively watched this show each sunday as a kid. I wasn’t allowed to see any of the movies (thank you, religion!) but I could watch this show, and it felt like a welcome way in, thirty minutes at a time

my wife and her entire team were fired over Zoom from their program manager jobs at a local nonprofit Seattle hospital this Spring because Trump just stopped paying Medicaid reimbursements. and this is a relatively affluent urban center

we're really not prepared for what's coming
As a direct result of President Trump's Big Ugly Bill, almost 300 jobs will be cut from Providence Swedish's First Hill, Cherry Hill, Ballard, and Issaquah hospitals and clinics. These are not the only layoffs we've seen in our health care system in Washington state in recent months.
Providence Swedish to eliminate nearly 300 positions
The cuts will affect jobs at Providence Swedish’s First Hill, Cherry Hill, Ballard and Issaquah hospitals and nearby clinics.

After much deliberation and a grueling interview process, I’m pleased to announce that I’ve accepted a new job and will not need any financial support from my parents to cover the high costs of childcare going forward. #AmericanDream #ThisIsYourCity

i've lived with it all my life obviously, but it's still really hard to explain why you can give me 3 hours to do something that is easy & takes 5 minutes and i will feel restless and unsettled while avoiding it and then when there's 10 minutes left it's like a magic "ok, proceed" button appears

There are so few outlets that actually publish reviews at this point, and more keep being shuttered. This is such a massive cultural problem that keeps getting worse. I don't have a solution or really anything positive to say at this point. It's just really, really bad.
Today, Paste Magazine shuttered all its non-music verticals, a choice I am both professionally and personally heartbroken about. Sadly, I am once again looking for a place that wants to let me write about Books and TV on the regular, so hit me up if that’s you or anyone you know.

It is a rare thing to really love movies these days—not as products, or meme factories, or greasy nuggets of pop culture that pass through our collective memory faster than shit through a gander, but as the real true powerful thing—and @bwdr.bsky.social really loves movies. Worth your support.

Mental health professional here, depends on many things, but “the pandemic and how we never addressed what that was like in any real way” is near the top of my list
Question for mental health professionals and not astrologers: why is everyone being fucking insane right now
