Gumbo is a short film about a gangster who wants to be a chef, but then his boss makes him do a hit. Passions and responsibility intersect in this one location thriller.

It's Ratatouille meets goodfellas.

i think we can do both. venezuela feels geographically and culturally very far away to many americans, and most americans live pretty close to a cheesecake factory
hello and welcome to the political genius exam. here is question one. which is a more compelling message:

- the president is sending armies to occupy cities and kidnap and kill people and your town could be next
- a meal at the cheesecake factory that previously cost $100 now costs $104.9
Romance alert: Trump's reckless tariffs have Valentine’s Day costs up across the board:

Roses 🌹16.6%
Chocolates🍫 18.7%
Ribeye 🥩 25.4%
Restaurant meals 🍽️ 4.9%

i don't want a lockout, but it would be a great excuse for Ken Burns to make a documentary about the Ohtani era.

i think this is what drives me nuts. people talk about how, say, the UN was founded by "starry eyed idealists" who didn't understand "reality." the truth is that the UN was founded by those who had just fought and *won* the bloodiest war in human history.

hard to communicate how shattered many basic functions in the City of LA are. we've stopped repaving streets, streetslights are dark, sanitation pickups take weeks. departments bleeding staff bc of budget cuts are also being raided to staff the mayor's pet projects. we can't even spend FREE money
The City of LA is about to give back millions of dollars of previously won money for active transportation projects because it can’t build things in any reasonable amount of time.

Setting aside the fact that twitter is cooking everyone's brains, these people are trying to claim that african americans weren't a part of baseball. and that the color barrier wasnt broken before the civil rights act. (and was a major part of enacting the civil rights act.)
when MAGA white supremacists like Carl whinge abt passing of 1965 Hart-Celler Immigration Act they are complaining that it overturned 1924 Johnson-Reed Act, a law limiting immigration to people from Northern Europe, which was drafted by eugenicist Rep. Albert Johnson, with BIG support from the Klan

everyone should read books. and we should have strong labor protections, wages, and cheap housing so people don't feel pressured to go into finance or tech.
This elitist view that only rich/Ivy/private school kids should study/have access the liberal arts is so deeply ingrained in so many highly educated Democrats’ views (including tons who majored in the lib arts themselves) that they don’t even realize they hold it, let alone how ugly & elitist it is
(3) But the Democrat view is also bad: while it's fine for people at Princeton and Harvard to study Latin and Sanskrit, public higher education is about job training and $ ROI. There is no room for the idea that curiosity-driven inquiry is a good that should be supported by the public.

I support rail to WeHo, but it's a little annoying when they say they're the heart of the region. Westwood/Swatelle/Century City corridor is more population and more job dense, and KTown is more population dense. DTLA is way more job dense.

I support you WeHo, but don't be annoying.

im talking to a dude from orange county on instagram who's very mad that Nithya Raman wants to figure out the budget and possibly raise taxes on homeowners (like was supposed to happen) and it turns out he likes the government of Dubai and he thinks the repression is worth it for the cleanliness.

it's kinda sad how many reactionaries are just scared of the world. they couch themselves in principle, but they're really just scared.

lo que todos tienen que saber es que no hay un centro del mundo. es un globo.

y no hay fronteras. somos el mismo.

nuestros divisiones son imaginarias. la única cosa que nos separan es la distancia.

Megyn Kelly just shouting “FOOTBALL IS OURS” at Piers Morgan about Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl show is the perfect example of this moment in time. Put it in a time capsule and send it out into space.

puerto rico is at the center of the americas. It's about halfway between New York and Lima, Los Angeles and São Paulo. It's a quick flight to both Mexico City, and DC.

Scottish pipes of freedom
Jack Duffy attaches a respirator to his bagpipes to play through tear gas. “I always play it whenever the police retreat because it's like, ‘You fucking ran while we stayed,’” he says.

im an american who grew up in latin america, so it's a strange combo of newness (puerto rico) and familiarity and nostalgia (latin america)

i loved it.
Watched the halftime show. I guess where I fundamentally depart from MAGA is that, when I see something like this, celebrating a culture that's not quite mine, with some references I don't get, something that's not For Me ... I *like* it. I like seeing inside other worlds. Why wouldn't you?
