It's a case of colonial violence returning to the metropole in the form of fascism. It happened before, with 20th century fascism, and it was predictable.
Never imagined our law enforcement would look like this.

its remarkable to see random suburbanites in their fucking PJs have more courage than the vast majority of america's political, social, and civil elites
More from the scene

I do think this sort of open, gutter racism becoming normal enough that they feel comfortable saying it on TV is probably the most damning indictment of the last 5 years.
You’re going to have to raise public spending to pay for rearmament in the face of a changing and uncertain world order, to rebuild the NHS and other public services, and to keep the welfare state going.

There’s also a way to deal with the boats: it’s called opening legal and safe routes.
Labour doesn’t need to copy Polanski 1:1 but it does need to offer its progressive voters something in order to get their votes. Labour isn’t entitled to the vote of progressives. It must earn them.

Also, this is just cargo-cult Blairism rather than actual Blairism lol.

Right, but the other major party is somewhere to right of Idi Amin? This isn't a morally or intellectually serious position!
I'm a Blairite! You fight for the ground between the two main parties rather than trying to appease Zack Polanski

OPEN SAFE ROUTES

boats are dealt with thusly
I am not arguing that Lab should move to the right; I'm saying it should not move to the "left" if that is defined as higher spending and ignoring the boats

We need to spend more money on the forces, transition to a carbon free energy sector, build more houses and leave trans people fucking alone.

Surely, if you’re one of the two main parties, fighting for the ground between the two main parties traps you in a recursive loop?

#OtD 25 Oct 1983 the Hayes Cottage Hospital in England was occupied by its workers in protest at its proposed closure the following week. The workers then ran the hospital themselves until the government caved in. It remained open until the 90s stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/9783...

It's odd for me to realize that my first-year undergraduates are at an age where they don't really remember that there was a form of US politics prior to Donald Trump. For them, Trump is not an aberration from the normal course of political discourse, but just how US politics is done.

My column in the @ftweekend.com: Keir Starmer is in trouble because he has not been serious about governing, and the best way for him to turn things around is for him to become serious:
Starmer needs to get serious about governing — and quick
The prime minister has to change or his party will seek a change of its own

Hilarious thing about this is that he didn’t appoint all the ministers of state in person either. Some of these people have a whole ministerial career in which the PM has basically never spoken to them at either end.

The violent persecution of Palestinian farmers in the West Bank is the worst it's been since 1967. This is a state orchestrated campaign of terror.
Settler terror devastates West Bank olive harvest

Israeli military restrictions and over 150 settler attacks in the past two weeks have prevented many Palestinians from harvesting this year’s crop.

more and more people are realizing that everything is Ship Money
It's bribery and corruption, a protection racket. But another way to describe money given to the government under threat of punishment is taxation, here imposed unilaterally and arbitrarily by the executive without the legislature.

Ship money is the analogy, if you're up on 17th C. English history.

Also relevant for British politics.
right. given the numbers, “how to win back the working class” should be as much about care and service workers as hard hats. and yet.
Least racist Reform politician

Followed by that time Sarah Pochin said, "My kids say: mum, you're such a moron" 👀
