The biggest renovation of the White House -- the so-called Truman Reconstruction of 1949-1952 -- came about only because the building was in such a state of disrepair that inspectors decided it was unsafe for occupancy.

Not because the president just decided he needed a big fancy ballroom.

Many people are outraged that Trump is demolishing part of the White House. But of course Trump can't do it without help. It's ACECO LLC of Silver Spring MD ("full-service demolition") that is tearing down the People's House. You can call them and let them know how you feel. 1/

Our government is doing a $20 billion currency swap with Argentina.

Argentina’s currency is down 30% this year.

This might be a problem.

Alongside the planned $20 billion from banks, the Treasury Department has also agreed to swap $20 billion for a roughly equivalent amount of Argentine pesos, meant to boost Argentina's foreign-currency reserves and help it protect the value of its currency.
By law, the swap doesn't require Argentina to post collateral, and the value of the pesos is supposed to be near equal to Treasury's investment. But the peso is steadily depreciating and could slide further if the government is forced by the IMF to allow the peso to freely float and have its price determined by market forces. In the past, countries like Mexico have Pledged other assets to ensure U.S. taxpayers are protected in similar transactions.
