• US presence: The United States is sending 200 troops to be on the ground to monitor the plan's implementation, a senior US official said. "No US troops are intended to go into Gaza," another official said. Al Jazeera update reads: Four killed al-Sabra attack, bringing day's death toll to 29: Wafa

The Palestinian news agency has reported that four people have been killed in the Israeli attack we've been reporting in the Sabra neighbourhood in Gaza City.
That brings the day's death toll in Gaza to 29, according to the news agency, despite the ceasefire breakthroughs.

Of the 5 movies I've watched in October, all but one contain a character with gnarly flesh. Maybe that will be my unofficial theme for this year: "rot 'til you drop"

Carl Potts on the Punisher, 1999. "The Punisher was not someone to be admired and emulated. This was a pitiful human being we were writing about."
Comics Buyer's Guide, Aug 20, 1999:
"The fact that he’s out there killing criminals often just creates endless revenge cycles, as in Lebanon or the Balkans. He’s forging a history of hate that in their minds justifies everyone going after one another.”
In Potts’ view, while kids and readers could idolize Captain America, they should never have idolized Frank Castle or his life. “Occasionally, I'd get a letter from a younger reader that said, ‘I love The Punisher and want to grow up to be just like him, ” Potts said. “No matter what I was doing, I'd stop dead in my tracks and write a letter back and ask if he really wanted to be a miserable, violent person who cures nothing and just hurts people? If he did, then he was missing the point of the story.
“I worried about it, because for every one person who wrote in, there were probably 10 who didn’t. The Punisher was not someone to be admired and emulated. This was a pitiful human being we were writing about.”

If you have access to the Night Gallery, it's Season 1, episode 5!

It won the episode for me which also included a dark comedy segment featuring Phyllis Diller & John Astin, as well as a perfectly evil entry about the last survivor of the Titanic!

It looks kind of silly out of context but that doll is bone-chilling in the moment! The slow pan from the destroyed doll to this freaking face. Genius.

I've been watching The Night Gallery for the first time, and I am really digging it. Tonight I watched the scariest of the series "The Doll". Let me tell you, when they cut to the titular Doll after it "killed" a rival doll, I jumped out of my seat!

Alan's scripts were conversations with the artist, and as such, highly readable and pleasurable to work from. Here's a scan of pg. 1 of SAGA OF THE SWAMP THING #20, Alan's first-ever issue, when he didn't know who the artist would end up being (it was Dan Day, pencils, John Totleben, inks)...
