40-year-old "Young Republican": Isn't all this ironic joshing about bigotry incredibly droll?

20-year-old "Young Republican" holding a tiki torch and a noose: What's irony?

I am increasingly of the opinion that there are those who laughed at Eric Cartman, those who laughed *with* him, and a generation of younger people who have no idea who Cartman is but see older people talking like Eric Cartman without realizing they're "joking" and are drawing their own conclusions.

Speaking as someone who's on the wrong side of 40 and is getting increasingly strong eyeglass prescriptions to match, 100% agree. Bifocals and magnifying glasses really don't cut it.

You're telling me I can download a book without killing a tree or committing myself to adding to my 500+ lb physical book collection? And I don't have to worry about it catching fire or turning to mush from water damage?

And I can read it anywhere I bring my phone to?

Come on. They're great.

EBooks are obviously superior to paper books in most circumstances.

Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat

Nevada is once again... special. There's no direct equivalent to the Hatch Act in state law (NRS 281A.400 comes closest), so it's up to public employers to draft their own.

State employees fall under NAC 284.770, for example. Washoe County repealed theirs (5.341) in 2022.

Amusingly, the enabling legislation for Reno's airport was created at the state level, while "Las Vegas"'s airport (which is actually in Paradise along with 90% of everything else people think is in "Las Vegas") is owned by Clark County.

There's no evidence that the MacArthur BART TOD project drove out low income or minority groups. The median household income at MacArthur station is lower than all the neighborhoods around it that gentrified with little or no development.

your tactic of protesting in an inflatable frog suit which gets normal people on your side is far inferior to my tactic of posting about laser blinding helicopter pilots which is both wildly illegal and, were it to succeed, would put basically *everyone* against me

I will politely but firmly note that, if any other public employees came out and said something similar following a conservative's primary victory, the response from conservatives would be along the lines of, "Good riddance to bad rubbish."

Lmao is this supposed to be a bad thing?
A tweet from Bari Weiss that says “"It's shaken me to my core," a lieutenant said of Mamdani's unexpected victory in June. "The absolute dread I feel is palpable.

Every time someone makes me read something Peter Thiel said it’s like “Scrooge McDuck is Jesus Christ and Huey, Dewey, and Louie are Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel and Daisy is Mary Magdalene and that’s why women voting has lowered American sperm count.”

There's a borderline-entertaining piece of potential fan fiction where someone compares the characters of Dragon Ball Z to various characters from the extended Christian universe (e.g. Vegeta and the demon Viné).

I wouldn't recommend basing a political eschatology on it, though.

It's at about the same level of thoughtfulness as a greeting card. Given how much water it takes to make one, it might even be somewhat more environmentally friendly.

Exec3: What if, while we targeted our advertising towards lanyard-class staffers with an occasionally overdeveloped sense of noblesse oblige, we argued that the NLRB was unconstitutional?

Exec1 and Exec2: Okay, now it's starting to get warm in here.

More judges speak to the press (the NYT) about what a disaster the Supreme Court (specifically the shadow docket) has been - “incredibly demoralizing & troubling”; a “judicial crisis”; a “slap in the face to district courts.” www.nytimes.com/2025/10/11/u...
