We never could've predicted in the 90s that Illuminati would miss the mark in realism by not being over the top *enough*

Man when I was setting up this game of Illuminati I totally failed to place Cosplayers in conflict with ICE.

My bad.

Bless you all, Portland. And curse you for making me work out the alt text for this specific image.
People dressed up as a shark, some kind of white dog, and... maybe a peacock? Or colourful turkey?

Text overlay: After our interview, the frogs were joined by a couple of unicorns, a polar bear, an axolotl, a raccoon, and several more characters.

A billion dollars is the socio-political equivalent of a loose nuke, and we should work as ruthlessly and diligently to prevent the acquisition of the former as we do the latter.

“The problem with billionaires isn’t that they’re hoarding money that would otherwise pay for a Scandinavian social utopia. It’s that their money has become a source of wildly distorted political power that allows a few men with extremist views to wreak havoc on the rest of us.”

We’ve got plenty to update… and that’s just the entry for your publisher

If you are a designer and even moreso if you're an RPG publisher.

Yes, please tell those secret origins stories!

(Work begins on Designers & Dragons 3e next year!)

Contemplating how the most influential award show for Evil Hat was the Indie RPG Awards held in the early 00s, before Evil Hat existed as a company. @rdonoghue.bsky.social and I won one for an earlier incarnation of Fate, “best free game”. It was a narrower population that knew about it, but enough…

Yeah I read the article in terror of this phrase but it does say he and his family did get out the next day.

Not sure it’s irony such as fruitfully career relevant.

Okay, first off, it was an honour to be included on this podcast. Second, I've just noticed the tiny mouth and tiny ear on the Talk of the Table logo and they're just disgusting 😨

But nothing will ever compare to the smaller, more niche one we got back when we weren’t even serious—or thinking—about commercially publishing one game, let alone the dozens that have followed since.

Changed my life.

FWIW.

This is why Evil Hat exists. The subsequent ~20 years don’t come to pass without that call, and that call doesn’t happen if we hadn’t gotten that recognition.

I’ve enjoyed the times we’ve gotten celebrated by the ENnies — SOTC’s win “coming out of nowhere” a couple years later put us on the map.

…because come 2005 Jim Butcher was talking with his agent about all these inquiries about the rights to the Dresden Files for an RPG, and didn’t want his IP to land in the hands of folks he didn’t know and could trust. His agent said “don’t you know some award winning designers?”

Then he called me.

This whole series is now required reading for anyone in the TTRPG industry.

Lots of great thoughts about awards and how they can be better and more helpful to the people they highlight.

In case you're wondering whether the Tr•mp is serious about persecuting people for the things they think and write about, consider the case of Mark Bray, a historian who writes about the origins and evolution of antifascism 🗃️
