Going to read her bio. Then bios of Vera Rubin and Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin. Great female role models!
The photo shows astrophysicist Jocelyn Bell Burnell standing beside a radio telescope and holding data sheets displaying the first recorded signals of a pulsar, discovered in 1967. The image shows a book cover titled "Echoes of Brilliance: Exploring the Life & Contributions of Jocelyn Bell Burnell" by Lydia Calder, featuring a black-and-white portrait of astrophysicist Jocelyn Bell Burnell at the top.

If the design itself isn't enough, I've also hidden a sneaky NFC tag behind that printed tree on the front cover. Just tap it with your phone and it will open my new, free, digital guide to british trees at canopyrobin.com/uktrees/!

Type II and III: Civilizations that can harness the energy of their entire star system and galaxy, respectively.
On the Kardashev Scale, we're Type 0 - just babies.

Type 0 civilization: Relies on fossil fuels and hasn’t mastered sustainable planetary energy.

Type I civilization: A fully planetary civilization that uses and controls all available energy on Earth (solar, geothermal, wind, etc.) responsibly.

Today, a thread to honor and celebrate #IndigenousPeoplesDay.
The world is so big, so there will be a second and maybe a third part.
We will begin with Zuni weaver We’wha (1849-1896).

🧵 1/20
We’wha (1849-1896), a notable weaver and potter Lhamana (Zuni Two Spirit), took on both masculine and feminine tasks as a Zuni cultural ambassador and pottery and textile artist.
Also a spiritual leader, We’wha endeavored to preserve the history, traditions, and knowledge of the Zuni people.
A black and white, full body portrait of We'wha, a highly respected cultural figure in Zuni culture, known as a "lhamana" (two spirits). We'wha is standing, looking at the camera, wearing traditional Zuni attire, with patterned clothing, woven belts, a long beaded necklace, and earrings. The hair is styled with side buns adorned with ribbons.

Aftonbladet's interview with Greta Thunberg is now available in English - it raises many serious questions, not least about the Swedish govt. effectively abandoning its citizens to torture because it doesn't agree with their politics. A thundering disgrace.

I'm not going to stop talking about these 18,000 children. I'm dedicating a children's book to them. I might have to self-publish, but I have marketing experience, so will make noise.

We can never stop talking about them. This is the most shameful moment in modern history.

I have to find a way to insulate myself from the world. 18,000 dead Palestinian children, on official numbers. True number probably an order of magnitude higher. No outpouring of grief, no outrage: the press and politican class has decided our lives don't matter.
The Real Reason We Should Revive Extinct Animals

De-extinction science is conservation science.

Conservationists need this technology to ensure the preservation of species living today (i.e., genetic rescue).

Oh my goodness......please more! But this time, you own the apartment, and it has a view.....of green leafy trees that turn amber and crimson in the fall. The scent of pumpkin spice latte....something... something....

Of all the claims made about AI, the suggestion that it'll help "solve" climate change is, to me, the most risible. Such a claim could only come from people who do not understand the nature of the problem, or what addressing that problem requires.

And the winner of this year’s ✨Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year✨ goes to Andrea Dominizi!

Awarded for their poignant picture of a longhorn beetle seemingly watching the destruction of its own forest. Or maybe the beetle is a symbol of resilience, surviving against all the odds 📸🧪🪲
A longhorn beetle stands on a log in focus at the bottom left corner of the frame, as a logging machinery is pictured blurred in the background.
We really need to teach Aussie children about snakes.

How does prospective mining on the Moon mirror prior forms of extractivism on Earth?

In July, I visited the Blåfjell and Tellnes Mines near #MagmaGeopark in Southwest Norway to collect video materials and talk with local experts about mining heritage.
Will watch this! Thanks! It would be wonderful if someone made a biopic. Especially now, as we enter the male-dominated AI age.
