Walking away from Omelas, are you? On our nice walkable infrastructure, mind you. Anywhere else you'd have to drive away from, but not Omelas. There's also an accessible shuttle every 15 minutes, but nooooooo, don't let me slow you down, you've got an Omelas to walk away from, Mr. Ethical.

My standard response to these things is "Tell me what you do and I'll tell you why the sins of your employer disqualify you, too, from elected office or polite society."

Works equally well for internet randos, NYT reporters, or the hired goons of the military-industrial-academic complex (like me).

I love how this has the cadence of a postgame interview. "Chicken Guy, what do you think of Frog Guy?" "He's an amazing talent, no doubt, he gives you his best game every time…"

I dunno if anyone is sitting on a warehouse of inflatable costumes in the PNW right now, but if they are, they're going to make so much money they'll start wanting a tax break bad enough to regret selling the costumes to those radical hippies in the first place.

"The views expressed by users @kaioken8026, @mrright8439, and @ZxZNebula ... do not alter the Court’s analysis."
The Court holds, based upon a full consideration of the context in which “Not Like Us” was published, that a reasonable listener could not have concluded that “Not Like Us” was conveying objective facts about Drake. The views expressed by users @kaioken8026, @mrright8439, and @ZxZNebula, and the other YouTube and Instagram commentators quoted in the Complaint, Am. Compl., ¶¶ 73-74, do not alter the Court’s analysis. In a world in which billions of people are active online, support for almost any proposition, no matter how farfetched, fantastical or unreasonable, can be found with little effort in any number of comment sections, chat rooms, and servers. “[T]hat some readers may infer a defamatory meaning from a statement does not necessarily render the inference reasonable under the circumstances.” Jacobus, 51 N.Y.S.3d at 336.

It's funny, in an extremely dark way, that his staff seems to have hit on the same solution he did for Fred Sr.: put him in a big fancy office, give him papers to shuffle around, and tell him he's still in charge.

Paper, 10,000 words. Wanted journal limit, 7,500. But paper perfect already! Hope editors understand what they asking for here. Beautiful ideas too precious to cut, only fat dumb little connecting words.

Yes, was journal editor too, why ask?

Every headline I've ever seen about Brian Blessed has read like he just walked up to you on the street and shouted it at you himself.

I feel like this doesn't get talked about as much as it should

I am furious about that Doctor Who jumper.

There is a VERY narrow range of people who can wear that safely. You must be an inherent embarrassment to yourself, yes, but crucially you cannot be MORE embarrassing than the sweater itself!

This is grownup cringe. Leave it to expert dorks like me, kid.

I genuinely think this is an excellent use of Rep. Boebert's time and I encourage her to pursue this matter to the exclusion of everything else until she's uncovered the truth about our aquatic alien overlords. Or, I guess, underlords.

I know it's not the most important thing right now, but that was a great media appearance in terms of how clearly you articulated it. I think this would be accessible to just about anyone, and I'm sure it did some good.

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

WSJ: President Trump believed his Truth Social post demanding prosecutions of James Comey and other political foes was a private message to his attorney general, and "and was surprised to learn it was public."

What is "plenary authority" and why is it a big deal that Miller said that Trump has it over the national guard?
4 frame comic where Miller slowly blinks. Text reads. A few hours ago, speaking on cnn about Trump's plan to send the national guard into us cities, Miller said : under title 10 of the us code, the president has plenary authority, has... He then fully stopped talking and just blinked at the camera, as if he realized that he said the quiet part out loud. "Plenary authority" means "complete power over a particular area with no limitayions". It is equivalent to ruling by decree, which us how Mussolini, Stalin or Hitler governed. Having "plenary authority" over the military would mean that Trump can just use the national guard as he pleases, no matter what the courts say. It's a power grab.

Some big personal news: just bought my ticket to the 2026 Scotties 🥌.

This completes the process of making Canadian women's curling fandom my entire personality. I know how that might sound if you don't know me, but to be clear, I had very little personality for it to overwrite in the first place.

Monstrous.

"federal agents detained nearly every resident of the 130-unit building—including children and babies—placing them in zip ties and separating them by race into vans for more than two hours early Tuesday morning."

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race
