For any new followers: hello, I'm Anthony, and I run a blog (split into two sections) about media and tech. I write about comics, animation, Linux/blogging/other tech, streaming services, and diversity in the above.

My Bluesky posts are mostly along similar lines. Thanks for following me!

From May: A look at children’s TV cartoons that star adults. At this point, it's mostly old-school franchises without many kid characters, or shows aimed at preschoolers/PBS viewers.(And "SpongeBob.")

I take a look at children’s TV cartoons that mainly star adults, which are very few these days.

Not counting ones I just passed through without stopping, 21. (Also, Washington DC.)

True. How many sitcom/cartoons have the parents/adults hate whatever's new? Rock music in 50s/60s media (a lot of "Elvis/Beatles suck" jokes); rap music in 80s/90s media; video games even in some recent media; new tech; new genres/types of media ("anime/manga aren't real cartoons/comics"), etc.

Fear of the new is always there.

Hmm...
- "Dennis" is still published, but few kids likely read newspaper comics anymore.
- Kids *might* recognize the Flintstones as "the weird looking guys on the cereal box." ("They had a TV show?" "Why are they driving a car with their feet?")
- Woody's still popular in Brazil at least.

Don't worry, American culture was also threatened by the ninja turtles based on nothing but "New is bad, old is good"

Hulu is now a global brand, replacing the "Star" category on non-US versions of Disney+. Supposedly no real difference besides uniform branding, though wonder what non-American Disney+ subscribers make of the name change.

It's Officially the End of an Era for a Major Disney Brand
A shocking move that will change the streaming landscape forever.

Good news: The Blue Jays will be so much better rested
Bad news: this game took so long the Blue Jays might have died

Game (finally) over, Mariners win... and go on to play against the Toronto Blue Jays in the next round. (Winner goes to the World Series.)

No new blog post tomorrow. Among other things, this work week's been long...

I know. Just noting how the characters hyped as "evergreen" are less so these days vs the ones the ad puts down.

As for the Turtles, they're more prominent these days than Woody, Fred, or Dennis. The fact they're Paramount's most famous superhero property (and one of its few besides the long-dormant Mighty Mouse) helps.

An ad with classic cartoon characters Fred Flintstone, Dennis the Menace, and Woody Woodpecker with the caption "Turtles Come And Turtles Go, But We Go On Forever"

You know... There's something ironic in how NerdBros and Conservatives alike have been pissmoaning about "Woke Disney" corrupting the youth, all the while GLITCH has quickly been amassing critical acclaim and a loyal fandom being FAAAAR more "woke" than Disney would ever aspire to be...

SUPERBATOBER 10: FOSSIL -- Batgirl and Supergirl have found a enormous skeletal section of some apparently ancient creature! As Kara miraculously lifts it out of the ground mostly intact, Streaky EYES something that could prove a bit dangerous.

Nobody said that about Rugrats (which had merchandise and a movie a year before this magazine). Think Pokémon's reaction was a mix of "new thing kids like that parents/older people find annoying" and "a weird foreign thing, and from Japan." (Also "anime isn't 'real/normal cartoons' like US ones".)
