To resist the temptation to mark all my emails as “read” and fall on the mercy of God we pray to the Lord ….
That photo of the East Wing is some metaphor for these times.

*deep breath*

The term Judeo-Christian is somehow both antisemitic and Islamophobic: it reduces Judaism to Christianity's predecessor on the one hand and implies only two Abrahamic religions on the other, when there are (at least) three
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

I am living for the sumo wrestlers having fun playing tourists while preparing for the sumo tournament in London
I saw a Tshirt yesterday that said
No Kings
Yaass Queen!
Alternative: “Queens against Kings”
Saw a drag queen yesterday at our protest; partner commented “no kings only queens” would be a good sign. NYC FTW.

You shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace
The mountains and the hills will break forth before you
There’ll be shouts of joy and all the trees of the field
Will clap, will clap their hands.

all the anxiety human evolution developed to help me spot bears now kicks in when i have to answer emails
Here’s a pic I found at the Facebook page Indivisible FXBG
It was pretty big for this town. They had us along a street for about 1/2 mile. Everyone was kind of in a line bc of sidewalks traffic and so on.
I was the only one in clericals today at the demonstration I went to which was odd.

Still the vibes were good and the crowd was extremely normie which is also very good.

I was trying to figure out the duck suits and cowbells but maybe I’m not supposed to.
The black cop was clearly getting annoyed at all this theatre towards the end.
But even with that, plus the fact his boss is a car back, and the cop had his own DUI experience a couple of years ago … the forbearance showed to the driver is astounding.
I’m not entirely surprised to see the monroe county sheriff give the guy such patience. The number of DUIs in the keys on a daily basis is up there. So it’s just another day at the office.
My man was stopped on the 7 mile bridge and said he was coming from Miami and going to islamorada.

Dude, islamorada is an hour behind you.
An ICE agent, who is being arrested for drunk driving and nearly killing his little kids & others, tries to stop the arrest by racially profiling the officers arresting him. Amazing to watch the courtesy given to him as he is belligerent and uncooperative
Based on my dealings w HW that checks out.
“Don’t go to seminary go to this bible college instead”
I am pretty sure there is a through line from evangelicalism and fundamentalism eschewing biblical scholarship and this nonsense
RFK Jr: We need to stop trusting the experts... Trusting the experts is not a feature of science or democracy, it's a feature of religion and totalitarianism.
Request to please normalize not telling someone who is 51 years old they are “a baby” or “you’re so young.”

It’s not quite the compliment one might think.

Broke: young people like conservative Christianity

Woke: young people like progressive Christianity

Bespoke: The Book of Common Prayer 1979 of the Episcopal Church represents conservative Christianity in every way that matters (sacraments, Creed), and progressive young people like it
In @nytopinion.nytimes.com

Many Gen-Zers “bring a new attitude to the combination of faith and politics, and many see politics as a matter of spiritual warfare,” writes Daniel K. Williams, a historian of American religion and politics.

And what that might mean for the future of American politics.

Fun fact: Christianity WAS in fact sneered at as a ‘religion of slaves and women’ by the Romans back in the day.

When I mentioned this in my early church history class folks minds were 🤯
there's genuinely quite a lot of 'christianity is a religion for losers' stuff on the new right and well yes! that is the point! it was a faith of slaves and women, as the romans sneered.
Donald- So I just admit that I was wrong and I get to go into heaven?

Jesus- Yes my child. I paid the price for your sins when I died on the cross

Donald- But I have to admit I was wrong?

Jesus- Yes my child.

Donald- I like messiahs who weren't crucified.

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.
