Something about it kept calling to me over the various objectively-more-spooky/autumnal stuff on my stack and it is PAYING OFF — really delighted by it so far, can't wait to hear what you think

If you like @vajra.me's THE SAINT OF BRIGHT DOORS and/or RAKESFALL, you need to have Paige Lewis's CANON on your radar. It's gonna get the Literary treatment from PRH (or maybe, at best, Literary-Genre a la CHAIN-GANG ALL-STARS) but I hope spec/weird readers will take it seriously too.

If you might be interested in a signed copy of Jonathan Lethem's new & selected — you're in luck! Rough Draft has a limited (but decently robust) stock, shipping cheap, I'll even throw in a note if I know ya.

"Tracy you can't fly anymore, remember?"
*cut to Tracy stood in a plane brandishing a box cutter. his expression is tense and angry but he is saying "If you do not all calm down I cannot teach you about knife safety" in Arabic*

B plot is Tracy finding out about 9/11, which he’d never heard of before

Jack gives Jenna an extremely sexist half-hour sitcom with “created by Liz Lemon” at the end of the credits. It is immediately canceled, to great outrage on the right. A conservative website called The Dogwhistle interviews Liz and she’s super mean to them, so they blame her for sabotaging Jenna.

Jenna would make Liz write jokes for her, Liz would write a bunch of feminist material because she’s mad at Jenna and then try to pull it at the last minute because she’s worried for Jenna’s safety. Jenna would ham it up so hard that the Saudis would love it as parody of shrill American women

(Final (probably) reminder that I'm interviewing the one and only Jonathan Lethem tonight at The Old Dutch Church in Kingston, NY at 7pm! There will be signed books! Please come, and support the O+ Festival!!)

In another life, I would often find myself banging around the office on event days, too much energy to really do anything but also not really anything to do because my brain is on the evening. I have not felt this way in a long time, but I am feeling it now! It's nostalgic! And also annoying!

This whole thread!!! when I talk about YA authors getting picked up to write romantasy, it's overwhelmingly white authors writing het romance. but that represents just a fraction of what's actually happening in the YA space.
bookjockeyalex.bsky.social
There are real conversations to be had about thematic issues with romantasy, what publishers are buying vs what they're rejecting, YA being colonized by NA, etc. But what ends up getting the most marketing, into celebrity book clubs, and on bestsellers lists isn't representative of the whole genre.
drewsof.bsky.social
oh god that makes it even worse?!

man, I haaaaate these automated answering service things that will "see if this person is available to take your call" or whatever — just... let the call go to voicemail? why is this a thing?

Regret to inform the haters that it's another killer pod this week. @devintoshea.bsky.social on Pynchon, @trshboyoli.bsky.social on splatterpunk, @mbsycamore.bsky.social calling in to offer joy! COME ON, what more do you need?? (besides, I guess, the end of fascism but listen I'm merely a book guy)

I mean, there are many possible answers but a correct one simply going by word-stats has gotta be Aesop Rock.

I also need to know: I am fairly middle-of-the-road on Taylor Swift but someone I know called her the Greatest Living Lyricist. She is not.

Who is yours? Either the greatest or your favorite?

So we'll ruin the banks
And we'll cripple the courts
And we'll take on the world for America's sake
And we'll take all the land
And we'll take back the country
And we'll take and we'll take and we'll take and we'll take…
