it’s World Autism Day so y’all are contractually obligated to look at my Lego. I don’t make the rules, that’s just how it works

this one is based on the Southern Reach books (it was a trilogy when I made the video) by @jeffvandermeer.bsky.social

if they're cutting SPED can we unleash a hoard of autism moms on the government? I mean I don't like autism moms but boy I'd pay to watch that fight

what if it's their true purpose, their place in the bigger plotline, like how Gollum was destined to fall into Mount Doom with the One Ring

I want to exist in a world with which I can physically interact

I want actual, tangible items in my hands, I want weight and texture

the concept of electronic "data" is as useless to me as an imaginary world from a children's book
dropoutninja.bsky.social
I can handle technology up to about 2007 or so, things like mp3 players and grocery store self-checkouts

but it's like my brain reached capacity at that point

everything beyond then strikes me as superfluous and absurd and I can't un-rigid my thinking
dropoutninja.bsky.social
few things are more likely to trigger a full-on, self-harming autistic meltdown for me than technology

there are restaurants that have switched to AI taking orders, or ask customers to do self-service at touchscreen menus instead of talking to cashiers

I just quit going to those restaurants at all
dropoutninja.bsky.social
the more I use modern technology (touchscreens, "apple" products, etc.), the more certain I am that it's not just useless to me but also harmful, and the best thing to do would be to destroy it all with my nice antique firefighter axe, which is a piece of technology I can actually get behind

I'm a hedonist and one of my best friends is a foodie, which works out amazing cause he'll say "hey I found this obscure place with fresh squeezed orange juice and amazing grits" and I'll be like "hell yeah motherfucker let's go revel in the pleasures of the flesh"

these wooly aphids are so cool

they remind me of how you look at a snowflake from a distance and it's just a little white poof, but when you get closer you see all the details

if I could change one thing, honestly, I would never lose the ability to speak— but even if I wasn't autistic, there'd be something else I wanted to change about myself, right?

maybe I'd think I was too tall, or I'd wish I had better vision

I don't understand why people are so scared of difference

I am autistic with moderate support needs

sometimes I am upset by my challenges, but there are also good things

my sensory processing disorder gives me a sense of intimacy with the physical world that others lack, and my intense love for my special interests brings me joy
dropoutninja.bsky.social
speech is much easier for me now, and I have a big support network

as someone with higher support needs, I do have my criticisms of autistic representation; I often feel left out

I recommend starting with this video if you'd like to hear more of our experiences

I was nonspeaking as a child and drank from a bottle until I was seven, among other challenges

now I am mostly speaking, but no, I cannot live independently

every time someone spoke about me like I wasn't there, I heard them, and I have never forgotten how dehumanizing that felt
dropoutninja.bsky.social
I went to see Good Boy today, and since the theatre was mostly empty, you know what seat I picked...

K9
that meme where a husky makes a pun/bad joke and grins at the camera like "see what I did there?"
dropoutninja.bsky.social
sorry if you were making a joke that I didn't understand. I have a developmental disorder, so I have trouble discerning sarcasm and rhetorical questions

have a pleasant day

(it's a quote from the movie, when Rick says he remembers everything about the day the nazis got to Paris: "the Germans wore grey, you wore blue")
dropoutninja.bsky.social
one of the things my family got right about my autism is that they were all very supportive of my neologisms and everyone adopted them

examples
pidos [pie-doze] = shrimp (because they looked like sea spiders)
floobiddyhaha = humorless old woman
binkytarsky = hello or goodbye, depending on context

went to a matinee of Rocky Horror Picture Show and the only people there besides me and my friend was this normie straight couple that got up and left when Frank-N-Furter started fucking everyone

bless their hearts

"your inhaler has a terrible environmental impact" oh sure, I can't breathe your smog soup and it's a ME problem
chantalalive.blacksky.app
They're really on a mission to make you feel like you're responsible for climate change if you need meds to breathe. Tell you what, reduce some of the billionaires to not being billionaires to help greenhouse gasses & we'll keep staying alive with our inhalers.

The people who are most vulnerable to the hard-to-breathe air that comes with climate change may inadvertently be adding to the problem, new research finds. https://cnn.it/4pWQMoh

I found her! going to take her to the vet to be sure, but she seems okay!

the world is burning but all I can think about is this very small cat because she got out and I cannot find her anywhere

if you have a moment, spare a good thought for my Katarina

the only cat I've ever met who sincerely loves belly rubs as much as a dog does— and it's never a trap! unbelievable!
wee, short-hair, tortoiseshell calico with a striking black and orange coat, standing on a sunny porch, her tail curled around a chair leg

Link got banned so I learned about J*y, who certainly follows the pattern of "transphobes are never funny and never want anyone else to be happy"

*censored as self-defense against pettiness cause you know that kind of person searches for their own name

kudzu bug on my screen door

I always thought "stink bug" was a rude name; I'm one of those lucky people who just smells cilantro instead of an actual "stink"

On this, the birthday of Clive Barker, one of the great Patron Saints of the Subversive, let the power of queer horror guide you.

This.

I saw someone whining about "the accessibility police" last night. If you think people reminding you to be considerate of disabled people is just being a "scold," GTFO.
gwensnyder.bsky.social
I know some folks think alt text reminders are Bluesky political correctness but it's like

Do you think blind people should be able to use the internet, yes or no

(And not just blind folks, other visually impaired folks as well)
dropoutninja.bsky.social
thank you! my partner is a pro at this, so she has launched a multi-prong strategy

we're hoping Katarina will turn up tonight, but the suspense is so hard
