I don't know enough about gaming culture to speak on this with any confidence but it does make perfect sense to me that the bulk of gaming journalism would be focused on "how efficiently was capital converted into assets?", rather than "what do these assets mean?"

Yes, I know there is a conservative intellectual tradition that I'm sure that maybe a handful of reactionaries could cite as being the genesis of their thought (like, I'm sure the Raw Egg Nationalist references Nietzsche), but I'm thinking more narrowly than "conservatives"

I kind of feel like this got off track but ultimately comes down to the fact that the reactionary intellectual tradition is pretty flimsy (outside of say, law) and reactionary critique is largely pointing and yelling at the individual things that make them upset.

I imagine this is largely because if they point to where they believe the symptom arises from it becomes overt racism, antisemitism or conspiracism, rather than an array of forces, ideas, drives, mishaps like those that support (good) leftist critique.

... but part of this is we largely don't just see a bunch of signifiers to get mad at! But I think the way Deleuze and Guattari describe capitalism is moving. The way the Invisible Committee describes nodes of power in the modern world is exciting! How Marx describes work in London is horrifying!

Part of this difference is the left's tendency to adopt post-/structuralist thinking in imagining the scope of the problems we're up against (and the absence of this tendency is also why I find so much Trot/Leninist writing to be a boring slog)...

I'm painting with a broad brush but, I suspect this lack of artistry is because reactionary critique describes what they're facing - oppression, decadence, woke, etc - as both the illness and the symptom.

I've read a lot of reactionary writing over the years and this made me think about how - when they're engaged in critique - they can never make that critique beautiful or evocative of anything but disgust or rage.

Like how conservative comedy collapses because they get too mad at a dozen things at once and forget to actually deliver a punchline corresponding to where the joke started, the centers of these other conservative artworks cannot hold. They just get too damn hopped up and start cramming the work with their every grievance! He’s dumping the problem in Brandon Johnson’s lap. With ICE cut loose to attack the city, the focus moves to Chicago; they’ve been everywhere today, even my neighborhood.
If Johnson follows Pritzker’s bad example, and sics Chicago Police on folks resisting ICE, all bets are off.

An extremely rough day for Edgewater in Chicago. ICE activity near schools. People kidnapped while working in yards, standing on hiring corners. So many rapid responders biking, walking, driving, whistles around necks, trying to protect their neighbors, but up against such well-funded forces.

My neighborhood is deep in the city, full of immigrants, and about as resistant as it gets.
ICE knows Pritzker has their backs, and probably expects Johnson to run interference for them too if they get in a jam. It looks like he will. Big mistake. It will not pacify this town.

Before public health, my initial training was as a trauma therapist. When I first heard about people doing this it made me genuinely scared. A machine can’t co-regulate with you, it can’t track your affect; it has no way of knowing when you’ve gone past your limit or how to avoid imposing meaning.

Some of us left our homes in the clothes we slept in when the first alert went out this morning and patrolled all day. Extra volunteers showed up for ICE patrols around local schools this afternoon as parents picked up their children.

As y'all have probably heard, there has been a lot of ICE activity on the North Side of Chicago today. At least four people were kidnapped by ICE in the Rogers Park neighborhood. Folks mobilized throughout the day to do ICE Watch and Rapid Response work.
