He’s dumping the problem in Brandon Johnson’s lap. With ICE cut loose to attack the city, the focus moves to Chicago; they’ve been everywhere today, even my neighborhood.
If Johnson follows Pritzker’s bad example, and sics Chicago Police on folks resisting ICE, all bets are off.

An extremely rough day for Edgewater in Chicago. ICE activity near schools. People kidnapped while working in yards, standing on hiring corners. So many rapid responders biking, walking, driving, whistles around necks, trying to protect their neighbors, but up against such well-funded forces.

My neighborhood is deep in the city, full of immigrants, and about as resistant as it gets.
ICE knows Pritzker has their backs, and probably expects Johnson to run interference for them too if they get in a jam. It looks like he will. Big mistake. It will not pacify this town.

Before public health, my initial training was as a trauma therapist. When I first heard about people doing this it made me genuinely scared. A machine can’t co-regulate with you, it can’t track your affect; it has no way of knowing when you’ve gone past your limit or how to avoid imposing meaning.

I had dinner last night with a friend who was talking about using ChatGPT to write and process her trauma, and how it was making connections she hadn’t realized. She’s very smart, and has psychosis and DID. And I have no fucking clue how to warn her away from it, it’s everywhere, so it must be safe?

Some of us left our homes in the clothes we slept in when the first alert went out this morning and patrolled all day. Extra volunteers showed up for ICE patrols around local schools this afternoon as parents picked up their children.

As y'all have probably heard, there has been a lot of ICE activity on the North Side of Chicago today. At least four people were kidnapped by ICE in the Rogers Park neighborhood. Folks mobilized throughout the day to do ICE Watch and Rapid Response work.

It really does worry me that a huge chunk of the people who ostensibly hate American fascism think the problem with Trump is he's just rounding up the wrong people but his solution of mass incarceration is ultimately correct.

That song is a particularly musical piece for Meshuggah! Often it's really just a wall of rhythmic noise (I say lovingly). I would guess that 80%+ of their tunes would sound very boring on the piano.

I can confirm this is true (and I promise I'm no throwing shade, I like Bray), because the one time I met Bray it was at a book event and a woman in the crowd asked his advice for stopping a fascist who'd been asked to speak at a local library and he opted not to offer advice.

Bray told the New York Times earlier on Wednesday that “my role in this is as a professor. I’ve never been part of an antifa group, and I’m not currently.” But he added that “there’s an effort underway to paint me as someone who is doing the things that I’ve researched, but that couldn’t be further from the truth.”
