If you want an example of an alien organism infecting the body politic with a deadly corrupting virus, then it is IMO absolutely farcical, comical, to have chosen Old Jezza when vicious, spirit-crushing, billionaire chasing crooks like Peter and his psycho mates are available.

Lewis does make some good points here, but look: Mandelson is not just some guy here. He has been at the core of the Labour right for decades; he was clearly right in the middle of McSweeney’s project all along, both the secret wrecking campaign and after; he was *literally picking candidates*.

Never understood the appeal of Firewatch. I spent literally *days* in real time sitting in that tower and didn‘t see a single fire. Also there was this lady who kept trying to distract me with conversation about stuff no matter how hard I tried to ignore her and focus on my very important job.
Ten years ago today we shipped Firewatch. I say this every anniversary but it feels both like a lifetime ago and like it was yesterday. Thank you everyone who played it back then or played it today for the first time. Thank you to everyone on the team, I’m still so proud of what we made.

This is what the #ClimateCrisis looks like

"I would have loved them to fix [the river] but there's nothing else they can do. You'd be a fool to think there isn't climate change ... The weather has changed, it's as simple as that," he said.

As the piece also describes, the polar vortex is also to unusual local extremes.

For example, January has been *warmer* in Nuuk, Greenland, than in Copenhagen 😵‍💫 - and it is continuing so far.

Copenhagen: -0.6°C vs average of +1.6
Nuuk: +0.2°C vs average of -7.7 🤯
Wild fact from @billmckibben.bsky.social's latest newsletter:

"The last colder-than-average month on planet earth was in February of 1985, which means that no one under the age of forty has ever known one."

Most of the problems with the game stem from high-level decision-making. The people who should be laid off are the people writing the layoff emails. No offense to those people (I've met some personally, they're nice guys!) but they made some fundamentally misguided decisions.

I think a big issue with modern game development is the disconnect between responsibility and accountability. The people in charge are theoretically responsible for the overall state of the game, but when a game does poorly a texture artist who did a great job is laid off.

at one point during the campaign jd vance was indignantly talking about haitian asylees in ohio and said "illegal aliens don't become legal just because the government says so" and i've been mad about it ever since, and this is the key to what he actually meant
The way to understand this, I think, is that everybody knows that when Trump or Vance says "illegals" he's not talking about legal status, but about social desirability, and so people think that that distinction goes both ways.
These people are just crazy. Trump gets up and says "MASS DEPORTATIONS MASS DEPORTATIONS MASS DEPORTATIONS" and they're like "he probably means a path to legal status for deserving immigrants"
