I want farmers to understand how they contributed to this mess, but they aren't the only ones who contributed to this mess, and they CAN help restore respect for farming, ranching, conservation of resources, and service to the country,which is the foundation of good governance.

I grew up in farm country. I've known farmers and ranchers all my life. Back in healthier political days that meant I knew Dem farmers and GOP farmers and a range of political positions. This is a tough learning situation for farmers & many others. I want them to realize they were cheated,

Annoyed as I am about farmers who could not see the cannon aimed at them and cheerfully voted for the bad guys, I am still not willing to say "Farmers..." in the same way they say "Women..." and "Democrats." NOT ALL FARMERS, are THOSE farmers. Not all THOSE farmers are beyond hope.

Agreed. We need checks & balances again. We need people in government who agree to accept the checks and balance system that keeps them from making the terrible mistakes the right wing has made and is making. SCOTUS must be rebalanced. CONGRESS must be rebalanced. The executive needs brakes.

You don't have to judge Columbus by the standards of today. His tenure as governor of Hispaniola was so horrific that he was dragged back to Spain in chains to answer for his many crimes.

Plus he never set foot on any land that would ever be a part of the United States of America.
