Saw these on Facebook and thought it was funny that the Hollywood Twin is showing XXX films in TAXI DRIVER, but by 1981 it has flipped to double bills of screwball classics and late Visconti which might have been programmed by Scorsese himself.
Travis Bickle in front of the Hollywood Twin cinema on 42nd street. The marquee indicates that it is showing adult movies. Jackie O also outside the twin in 1981. The marquee has Bringing Up Baby/The Philadelphia Story and The Damned/Death in Venice. A Google image search suggests she’d been at the Visconti double.

I keep seeing people ask, "Why does ICE go after harmless people like little kids and old tamale vendors instead of the hardened criminals they say they are trying to get?"

Allow me to clear this up for you.

Is there any other act that has totally disassociated themselves from a segment of their back catalogue in the way that Kraftwerk have with their pre-AUTOBAHN records?

what's the stupidest/randomest Simpsons quote that lives in your head rent free? Mine is the urge to say "you said go to bread" every time I am about to head to bed.

Everyone loves Maria Corina Machado, recipient of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize! *5 seconds later* We regret to inform you that Machado supports the extrajudicial murder of her own country’s citizens by a foreign power.

Just going to assume the next Kraftwerk album is called Dynamische Preisgestaltung, or something.
A screenshot, pinched from @stevejvickers.bsky.social, showing ludicrously high ticket prices for a Kraftwerk gig.

Might actually pay £1,600 to hear them play the first three albums. I’d stretch to £2k if they threw in Tonefloat.

Wait, I meant Ralf, Florian died.
facesofjeff.bsky.social
I joined a film society once and I soon realised that I like watching films and don't like talking to other people about them.
facesofjeff.bsky.social
Yeah, not spending £100+ to watch Florian press the spacebar on his laptop, sorry.

Being a full-time-ish student again means that I spend a lot of time with people in their 20s. Yesterday someone asked when The Lion King was released and another one said ‘I think it was the seventies?’

Absolutely outstanding work from a man who calls himself ‘John-Paul Satire’.

Not sure if you are familiar with the ancient computer game 'Rock Star Ate My Hamster', but it had characters called things like 'Derek Claptout', 'Tina Turnoff', and 'Witless Houston', and this kind of thing always reminds me of that.

Does this mean I will have to finally read the one of his books I have which has been in a box for about 6 years?

9 October 1978:

The death of Jacques Brel, whose many astonishing songs included 1961’s Le moribond.

The birth of Nicky Byrne from of off Westlife who had 1999’s Christmas number one with a cover of the English language remake of Le moribond, Seasons in the Sun.

That makes this even more incredible bsky.app/profile/face...

Robert Bresson could have spent his final days spinning Westlife’s double A-side ‘I Have a Dream’/‘Seasons in the Sun’. He would probably have recognised the latter as an adaptation of Jacques Brel’s ‘Le moribund’.

Said this before but Louise Brooks died in 1985, she could have watched Live Aid! Salvador Dali died in 1989! He could have been into the Happy Mondays!
