I am taking particular pleasure in the complete collapse of trans-as-unbeatable-wedge-issue narrative this morning. It might be an 80-20 issue in voters minds, but it has to be on voters minds to matter. The results in VA demonstrate that it is very much not on voters minds.
This morning I woke up and saw that Mamdani ad about Vito Marcantonio and was so stunned and excited by it that I wrote my first newsletter in months about Zohran, voting, Maine, New York socialism and my late grandmother. substack.com/inbox/post/1...
It's been forever...and yet: today!
Maine, New York City, Murphy Brown, Zohran Mamdani and the first Rebecca Traister

Without LGBT New Yorkers, Cuomo might’ve won. Mamdani’s genuine and relentless support of trans rights was not only morally correct, but an electoral necessity.
Centrist dems want buses running over LGBT people. @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social wants free and clear bus lanes instead. The difference won him the election.
This to me is the game. I don’t care if Schumer doesn’t like Mamdani, but for him to stand silently by while sex pest Cuomo leans into gutter racism and Islamophobia while accepting endorsements from Trump, Musk and Miller is outrageous from the Senate Minority Leader.
Schumer had a chance to repudiate the gutter racism and Islamophobia of Cuomo's campaign and he just fucking didn't. And that is disqualifying. He should be ashamed and we the voters should make sure he feels that shame.

I guess we’ll have to wait another day for the Times to report out a piece on how a serial sexual harasser would be able to work with women
