This pudding page puffin feels very much like it’s all perfectly primed and hot to go for a first thing Monday morning “how your email found me” post or maybe just the ever-relevant, always-ready one word caption MOOD
Detail from a 1970s puffin post magazine which depicts a black and white drawing of a cartoon puffin’s head as cereal bowl filled with scattered letters that form the words pudding page, with a grey spoon leaning against the side

We are not mean enough to the cozy horror people.

Absolutely wild that @commandersterling.bsky.social was ranting this week about how the word"cozy" has become pervasive in video games and I see this at my local library today
Poster at the library's video section advertising "cozy horror" movies; it's a collage of original posters for the films The Fog, Practical Magic, Misery, Werewolves Within, Let the Right One In, Hocus Pocus, Sleepy Hollow (Tim Burton version), Scare Me, and An American Werewolf in London.

it hungers and thirsts
it whines, it howls.

i daren’t let it out
for i am not ready to stop hiding

Excellently threatening energy from Deborah Findlay’s entry to the Puffin Post’s Concrete Poetry Competition.
A superb, subtle, sarcastic little poetic diss to the moon
Detail from a page from puffin post magazine black text on white reads, Deborah finally 13, the moon above a black outline of a crescent moon inside which is a poem that reads “poor moon, will you really shine so well when men step upon you and break your spell” under which italicised text reads a black and white copy of a charming painting by Deborah Findlay

You know when you have an idea of a writer as a person & it’s warm & fond & dares to be a little familiar as well as admiring? Well I finally got my hands on this (audio, bc USA) & it’s as widely generous, careful & real as I could have hoped. Frank & lovely. Thank you, @regretteruane.bsky.social
Book cover: Birding by Rose Ruane. It’s a lovely retro-coloured image of a person in pistachio green clothes holding a pistachio green soft ice cream cone.

Can’t help but read “who do you look like?” with a rueful, wryly amused, head-shaking “dear, oh dear, oh dear” intonation.
Anyway, despite behind several decades too late to win one of six paintboxes, perhaps I will try this as a drawing exercise to fend off the Sunday schoolheart soulsink
Detail from a page of a 1970s puffin post magazine which reads Young Puffin competition what do you look like, with an excellent cartoon illustration in black and white of a human head split into smiling and crying halves, over text that reads We want you to draw or paint a two-faced picture of yourself - we want one picture of you looking happy and chirpy and one looking cross and gloomy and then stick them side by side. PRIZES 6 PAINT BOXES.

Ya know when a book grabs you so hard everything else you might usually be distracted by is relegated by the need to keep reading? Then Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones is that for me atm.

Would make an incredible film.

Maybe next time they’ll forego the movie and just release a soundtrack.

The purpose of TRON films are the film scores. Idk about anything else.
gmcalpin.bsky.social
oh wow, the early reports are that the new Tron movie isn’t doing very well at the box office. this is wild, because the last Tron movie didn’t do very well at the box office, and also the very first Tron movie didn’t do very well at the box office and also neither of those first two were very good.

The great thing about the library is you find things you’ve never heard about. Anywhere. Not on any best seller list you follow or online or anywhere. Simply sitting on a shelf in the library. Waiting. And you choose to take a chance on it based on a cover, a blurb and your gut. It’s analog magic.

A 15yr old girl dragged out of a car, thrown to the ground, a knee on her neck.
Now THIS!
They knew he was autistic. IMO, they waited, watched, & grabbed him so they could get the whole family.
When kids, especially disabled ones, are used as weapons, no one is safe. Even going to the restroom.

🧵
ICE abducted a 15-year-old autistic boy during a bathroom break and kept him hidden for nearly a week.
His mother thought he was missing. Even local police couldn’t find him because ICE never told anyone they had him.

He was selling fruit with his mom when he asked to use the restroom.

It’s dinner time for the police. Appears to be pizza from a Salvation Army van.
