Gakster's controversial takes thread:

I did this in the other site:

I will say, I will take up arms to change our counting system to Dozenal. The fact that a third is a REPEATING DECIMAL pisses me off.

(Also, I love how "Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis" was too long, so we called it Lou Gehrig's disease...and then that was too long and now we just call it ALS. That's funny. Poor Lou Gehrig had a disease named after him, and then we stopped using his name to refer to it. Idk which is worse lol)

For the academics who follow me, Sarah Langs has also been battling ALS for a few yrs. She's only 32. We baseball folk are dreading she's not with us anymore. And she is being accused of plagiarizing numbers of something millions of people saw happen in real time. Unbelievable.

This isn't plagiarism, this is just pointing out something that happened that I could look up on Stathead on my own volition. A third person posted something similar before both of them!!

Person A: The sky is blue!
Person B: Hey you stole my idea!!

How the hell do you plagiarize a baseball stat?

Beefing with the most beloved person in baseball media didn’t go well? Wild, unforeseen!

I'm in (another) Jack Benny rabbit hole right now. There's a lot I could say. I'll just say this: we can lose Hope and Burns, and, to a lesser extent, the Marx Bros to the sands of time. Losing Jack Benny to those sands would be a tragedy, and I think it's happening. 😞 He's so important to the craft

Johnny Carson shared with others that he looked up to them (particularly Benny, famously), but hated that they ran themselves into the ground at old age. That's the reason he retreated from the public eye after he hosted his last Tonight Show. He didn't want to end up like them.

Bob Hope, George Burns, the Marx Bros, and Jack Benny were the last of the Vaudeville generations. Vaudeville circuits *still* existed in the 70s, and Hope still appeared on those stages!

And Vaudeville comedy was what you might imagine it to be. Still being done during the disco era and Watergate!

Milton Berle told a great joke (probably not his own, because he wasn't that talented) at George Burns's expense at a Dean Martin Roast.

"George, you look the same as you did 30 years ago! Old."

This was also true! He was seen as an elder in the 40s! But he would live 18 more years after the joke!

Like I'm not trying enough, or committed enough if I don't write in the margins; if I don't stress about writing too much; or if I can't come up with something in the Q&A.

My philosophical talent is very "gunslinger"-y. My process isn't that deep.

First, I juuuust missed out on those types of word processors. That's so cool you use it.

Re: Margins, I'm confident I know the material, and I have thoughts on it. I started my grad career 15 years ago, I know things and can engage. But I also feel like an outsider at times.

Like, there have been times all of them have sucked.

But all of them have multiple great players I ENJOY watching, and the wins are just not there atm. That's unprecedented.

Whether it's young Democrats expressing their support for DEI or young Republicans saying "I love Hitler,' both sides have expressed controversial opinions.

ALL of my teams (Mets, Jets, Rangers, Knicks) have remarkably talented players, talent any of them hadn't had in *years*

And somehow the Knicks are the ones that haven't completely shitted bricks...

yet.....
The Rangers became the first team in NHL history to get shut out in each of their first three home games of a season. Their 180-minute goal drought at Madison Square Garden is the second-longest, behind only the now-defunct Pittsburgh Pirates' 187:19 in 1928.

Let's also understand: he is rich and a public person, so he knows how not to slip far from what he looks like. An actual union rep from Illinois doesn't have that savvy.
