I was actually very disappointed in the mood of the crowd at last night’s screening of Night of the Living Dead. Laughter really can be such a reductive and harmfully depersonalizing response to older art. There’s really nothing in that movie that’s funny at all.

Someone's robbed the local animal shelter of their fundraiser money. Can Young Shadow find the culprit, and help his friend locate his missing autographed baseball in one night?

Want to take a minute to wrap up my thoughts about Meiko Kaji (梶芽衣子) being at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles last week.

Meiko did 3 Q&A sessions and 5 of her movies were screened across 3 nights, October 2, 3 and 4.

(Pictured here is a scan of the BeyondFest card for Meiko)

1/
Beyond Fest trading card of Meiko Kaji. The top says "Beyond Fest 25". A little lower is the word "Actor", then you've got a picture of Meiko. Below her is her name and "Tokyo" Back of the Beyond Fest trading card, split into 3 sections.

Top is a picture of Meiko in her iconic Scorpion outfit, the poster for the first movie she starred in and this text:

First Film: Kanashiki Wakare No Uta [1965]
Secret Juice: Meiko has appeared in over 100 film and television roles

Second section is this text:

A Japanese television/film actress and singer, she gained cult status from her 70's films in which she portrayed tough outlaw character.

Third section is a chart with the following values at the following levels. 6 being the highest, 0 being the lowest.

Certified bangers: 6
Fucks Given: 0
Vocal Power: 6
Revenge Power: 6

Anyway props to NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD for just flat saying "in times of crisis your supposed protectors reveal themselves as the racist lynch mobs they always were" 57 years ago

I'm partial to horror, but I do find it often populated with artists who are, in their way, trying to help anyone who will listen. They report the troubles of the world without clouding it with sentiment and try to find a path forward. George Romero is right at the front of that pack

Simply fantastic! The art is staggeringly good. Thanks for sharing another beautiful, monster-y piece. Hopefully we'll see this movie find it's way back to home video (bluray) one of these days too.

regrettably if you try to point this out online you'll get yelled out by 79208 journalists going OH SO YOU WANT JOURNALISTS TO STARVE??? even if you're, say, a journalist yourself, and point out that while there are clearly no easy answers, the status quo isn't exactly working for society
