Oh, as a bonus, the film features scenes in which the titular killer "chimp" pushes a van off a cliff and blows up a kitchen with a gas-leak fireball, a scene through which @bakoon.bsky.social alerted me to the existence of the film in the first place. 😆

Spooky Season `25, Night 13. I rented Link (1986) via Amazon Prime. Killer primate movie starring Terrence Stamp and Elizabeth Shue. The murderous chimpanzee is played by an orangutan with a haircut and fake ears. Some neat camerawork, but Jerry Goldsmith's circus music score dissolves the tension.

I'm just curious to see how well the show will hold up when they reveal that Shocker and monsters are real, which is a detail that's clear from the trailers. I've read the first volume of the manga. I think they'll pull it off.🤔

Just as Kamen Rider as a franchise balances on the razor edge of "toy-iffic bullshit" and "the coolest thing your 6 year old brain ever saw", so too does Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider walk a narrow path between tragic, heartfelt and mega-cringe. The key ingredient in both cases is sincerity. 😆

So, yeah, I got to Black Mage Village while streaming Final Fantasy IX tonight, and it was all I could do not to burst into tears while narrating the conversation between Vivi and the head of the village. 😭
