@mrjamesob.bsky.social The shop next door to us was a really lovely Polish deli and the owner went home about 2 weeks after the Brexit vote. She was heartbroken and took it incredibly personally. It was horrible.

I’m not sure how this relates to VAT by Reform?
It wd be a hard sell. The media headlines wd be awful, but we’d have to promise to work towards it at least. Someone out there must have research on what it would involve - which I think would be a huge amount of detailed arrangements.
The world changed utterly about a week after the last U.K. election. And things were bad enough before that.
Me too. What I’d prefer is an honest answer in comprehensible English as to how long they think the delay might be.

Happy Diwali. The world needs the light.
But do you want it broken up for the value of its materials, or sold to oligarchs on the black art market?

Amazing story in The Times. Reform UK failed to pay VAT to HMRC on its sales (tickets, merchandise). About £400k in all.

Not tax avoidance. Not tax evasion. They just didn't realise when you sell stuff you have to charge VAT.
And they want to run the economy?

Like ‘signalling problems’ - not really much help?
I recently went to surgery for an appt for a gynae issue, GP saw me same day, referred to hospital following week, ultrasound inside and out - saw consultant 20 minutes later and was cleared. I was prepared to wait weeks or even longer for each stage so was super impressed.

Actually I see more acts of kindness on London Tube and buses than I think I used to. Daughter also says somebody will always help withpram. .

On the topic of "vigorously denying".

One of the first things a wise barrister teaches their pupil is to lay off the adverbs.
If an allegation isn't true, say you deny it, or just say it's untrue, and explain why. Vigour is not a substitute for evidence, and it makes you look a bit desperate.
I thought it was unbelievably smug and self satisfied
So, plants are more adapted to survive than we realised? I’m astonished.
