MLK didn't distance himself from Bayard Rustin to avoid homophobic rumors? He didn't work with LBJ, who was fighting a war he strongly disagreed with? He wasn't a centrist on Israel/Palestine?

Both left and right misuse him, quoting him out of context to hide the complicated man underneath.

No successful civil rights movement has ever fought for every minority's rights at the same time. Even Martin Luther King threw some people under the bus.

People change slowly. Human nature is something you have to deal with no matter what political strategy you favor.

The left loves the abstract idea of organizing but hates its realities. They hate the compromising inherent to getting many people to work together.

Democrats are not perfect but they generally move in the right direction while Republicans do not.

If you want a large, successful movement, you work with imperfect people.

If you want a small, exclusive clique then have as many purity tests as you want.

I'm perplexed at watching pundits in the trades struggling to explain Tron Ares' disappointing opening.

Was it covid? Do people just not like science fiction? etc. etc.

The main reason is pretty obvious: Tron isn't a popular franchise. Nobody's interested in nostalgia for a failed 1980s project.

You have to be able to legally drink to even have strong memories of seeing the last TRON movie in a theater. ARES was a movie made for my generation and we don't need third spaces the way Gen Alpha and Gen Z do.
