They wanted the House.
They wanted the Senate.
They wanted the White House.
They got it. All of it.
It's all theirs.
And it's shut down.

They can lie
They can troll
They can "own the libs"

But. They. Cannot. Govern.

This is all you need to hold in mind when you're looking to assign blame.

William Lloyd Garrison called it, "A covenant with death, and an agreement with hell," referencing Isaiah 28:18.

PBS did a series years back called "The Abolitionists" that featured him in one of the episodes. It was a decent documentary.

To be fair, they were trying to increase the franchise just enough so that the planter aristocracy could maintain control of things without angering small landholders enough to provoke a rebellion. It is an agricultural document for an agricultural society.

The Antichrist is also responsible for the close door button on elevators, and for ads being twice as loud as the TV show.

Biden did this all the time, unfortunately.

Because night has fallen and the barbarians haven't come.
And some of our men just in from the border say
there are no barbarians any longer.

Now what’s going to happen to us without barbarians?
Those people were a kind of solution."

It's like the poem "Waiting for the Barbarians" by Constantine Cavafy

"Why this sudden bewilderment, this confusion?
(How serious people’s faces have become.)
Why are the streets and squares emptying so rapidly,
everyone going home lost in thought?

When Republicans are pre-butting a pro-democracy rally like No Kings and making shit up left and right to scare people, you know they're losing and in panic mode.

Pedal to the floor.

In other words, not the kind of God robust enough to satisfy most believers, and certainly not the God in all the books about him, except for the ones about demigods like Hercules, or maybe Zeus on a good day.

Take out the role of gods in natural phenomena like thunder, floods, etc. and plug in scientific explanations for them instead, and what we're left with is thin gruel, indeed, a kind of non-intervening, God-of-the-gaps, the kind who saves you parking spaces and helps you find your keys.
hoppycroaklightly.bsky.social
The problem with that is that it's quite difficult to tease out what a universe with a intervening deity would look like; the world looks mighty close to how it would look if there was no thumb on the scale at all (like that old line about God always being on the side of the biggest battalions).

I think the "you can't prove there's no god, so you're forced into agnosticism" rejoinder is a kind of theological shell game. The gods of most major religions today aren't exactly recluses living in mansions. Instead, they're famous for being deities who actively intervene in human history.

One could think they were sincere experiences while still maintaining a skeptical view of them. People hallucinate dead loved ones all the time; some people think they're actually seeing the dearly departed IRL; they're sincere in the belief, but that doesn't make the belief epistemologically sound

After ordering people out of the street, ISP cleared the entire “free speech” zone into the street before “curfew.”

New — Video shared with me shows ICE officers in DC detaining a man on Friday.

Bystander filming asks man for his name. ICE agent lies and says he’s not allowed to speak to him “by law” and another says “We’ve arrested American citizens for being too close…If he gets any closer, put him in cuffs.”
