So much lying. First, there *is* a legal mechanism for tapping contingency funds.

Second, most important, Johnson cites times when Trump ILLEGALLY moved money around, especially to pay military. Trump won't break the law for hungry people, though.

Why?
Q: In the last Trump shutdown, he made sure SNAP benefits went out. Why do you think he shouldn't do that this time?

MIKE JOHNSON: The president has done exactly what he did in the first term, and that is bend over backward to make sure we mitigate the harm. The money doesn't exist to do it.

I'm so sick of discourse from supposed allies about where trans people went wrong.

Where we "went wrong" is that billionaires spent unimaginably large sums to attack us repeatedly and major media outlets have spent a decade piling on.

I'm begging for Trotskyists to add an ounce of Critical Race Theory to their politics.
See also the class warriors who think “identity politics” are a distraction.
What, then? A J6-style insurrection?
I don’t know anyone who feels safe right now.
I bet it’s already there in the Black church, not that non-Black progressives give it much thought.
The thing that people want from Democrats is for them to have won in November or failing that say something that will make them feel better about the current situation and everything sucks so it's not going to happen.
People on this website: Democrats only do words and they need to do more than words!

Also people on this website, sometimes in the same post: What Democrats *really* need to do is better words!

And look, everything is very scary and awful it's hard not to lash out at the people you feel safe lashing out at instead of the people causing you harm.

People really want empty threats, the more fiery the better. I truly don’t understand it.
So do many of the leftists commenting on this thread.

Just thinking today of all the colleagues who called us alarmists and cranks when we pointed out that Trump was talking and acting like a fascist in 2016
Do your commenters actually expect the House under Mike Johnson to impeach Trump?
Our chance to stop this was last November. I assume all of your followers voted for Harris, right?

I keep coming back to this essay by Zinn, "The Optimism of Uncertainty."

Especially the second screenshot.

I’m headed there for the first time in my life next month and am thinking the same thing! Along with Ethel Mertz, of course.
My other favorite Chumash place name is Malibu, from “humaliwo,” “the surf sounds loudly there.”

I need a beach day.
We used baby oil to to clean the tar from our feet after days at the beach in Isla Vista or Goleta.
Speaking of the La Brea pits, Pismu, which we know in the name of the town Pismo Beach, is the Chumash word for tar, so “the Central and South Coast” (as the newscasters used to call it when I lived near the tar-spotted beaches of Santa Barbara) has three languages’ words in place names.

SCOTUS: considering race as one factor in a college applicant's file is blatantly unconstitutional

ALSO SCOTUS: considering race as one factor in targeting whom to detain and deport is cool cool cool
