You know what, we do movie prompts all the time and I enjoy them but where my real heads at, 1 like = 1 favorite heavy metal album
1 like = 1 favorite metal album

Jared Leto *is* AI: a tacky thing corporations keep forcing on consumers by putting him in everything even though he’s unprofitable and nobody likes it

"She is the dream actress that every director should have." —Gillian Armstrong

Rest in peace to the great Diane Keaton, fearless and unique, a dream actress indeed. 📷 Norman Seeff, Los Angeles, 1975
Black and white shot of Diane Keaton in a tank top with her hands behind her head. I like this photo for its simplicity; you can feel her personality.

Shocking new footage proves that they resumed the football game that Bane blew up after he made his big speech. This is from the second quarter.

Love the "excuse our mess, we're still open!" backdrop for the FG
Mizzou lining up a FG, the backdrop is an under construction section of the entire end of the stadium including orange hurricane fencing and a bare concrete wall

Better keep giving Jared Leto starring roles, then

‘TRON: ARES’ has earned $14.3M in its opening day at the domestic box office.

For comparison, ‘MORBIUS’ opened to $17.3M.

“Why are you still so mad?” is the question that makes all of them even madder.

It rocks that these people won, are in control, got what they supposedly wanted, and are still just as bitter as ever about everything, winning or losing makes no difference to filling the gaping holes in their souls

the illinois state police are helping ice because they support them and @govpritzker.illinois.gov is sending the isp to help ice because he supports them. if that wasn't true they wouldn't do it and it's fuckin stupid to write fanfiction trying to wishcast otherwise

In Broadview, IL this morning outside the Chicago area ICE detention center—

Just rolled up, immediately saw ISP/CCSO arresting a protester w/ a guitar (he appears to be in good spirits over it).

ICE vehicles have been coming and going, including a large bus driven by a masked agent seen earlier.

It's also, in a moment of universal coincidence I choose to regard as significant, the anniversary of Robert Forster's passing in 2019. Long live JACKIE BROWN, one of the best movies of the 1990s.

Saluting the legendary novelist Elmore Leonard, born on this day in 1925, with an all-day marathon of movies based on his crime stories, including Quentin Tarantino's JACKIE BROWN, now playing on Pluto TV Staff Picks: pluto.tv/us/live-tv/5...

There are a few chapters of Moby Dick that coalesce some aspect of the book—its critique of society/capitalism, the balance of individualism vs collectivism—but this one is maybe the purest summary of the actual conflict of the book, that gaining knowledge only clarifies the depths of your ignorance
jakecole.bsky.social
Just got back to chapter 104 of Moby Dick and “Give me Vesuvius’ crater for an inkstand!” remains maybe my single favorite sentence in literature.
wdclarke.bsky.social
Give me Vesuvius' crater for an inkstand!
One often hears of writers that rise and swell with their subject, though
it may seem but an ordinary one. How, then, with me, writing of this Levi-
athan? Unconsciously my chirography expands into placard capitals. Give
me a condor's quill! Give me Vesuvius' crater for an inkstand! Friends, hold
my arms! For in the mere act of penning my thoughts of this Leviathan,
they weary me, and make me faint with their outreaching comprehensive-
ness of sweep, as if to include the whole circle of the sciences, and all the
generations of whales, and men, and mastodons, past, present, and to
come, with all the revolving panoramas of empire on earth, and through-
out the whole universe, not excluding its suburbs. Such, and so magnify-
ing, is the virtue of a large and liberal theme! We expand to its bulk. To
produce a mighty book, you must choose a mighty theme. No great and
enduring volume can ever be written on the flea, though many there be
who have tried it.

Always a lighthearted salon game to chart out how twelve lifetime *zero-laughter* broken brained billionaires decided in their thinktank groupchats that American comedy was their most dangerous enemy, and so simply purchased and wrecked it over ten years with the dumbest algorithms.

Yeah I remember the DVDs being passed around high school like wildfire my freshman year back in that interregnum between its cancellation and being revived bc of DVD sales and Adult Swim ratings and it was a blast when it first happened and/or I was a teen lol

It’s funny how the classic format really isn’t that much different on paper than Family Guy but the latter manages to thread its gags together into the momentum even though they often have no tangible ties while the latter is just Scenes from a Hat disjointedness

Also I miss the days when close-quarters combat in movies was slow chops from actors who had at least three drinks that day. The only “mixed” martial arts James is doing is the martini he had 15 minutes earlier
jakecole.bsky.social
Is Goldfinger the Bond movie where James is most actively trying to annoy everyone the second he encounters them? I know the competition is steep but
jakecole.bsky.social
Yeah it was always funny back in the day when naysayers would say “this is just auteurism” and we’d say “yeah that’s the point”
jakecole.bsky.social
That list was one of my Bibles for so long, it was a personal high when I got to start writing for Slant.
jakecole.bsky.social
Conversely it felt for a while like Billy Wilder was (erroneously, stupidly) put in a naughty corner for being “just” a good writer and not a great filmmaker but I think sanity finally won out there.

The term “vulgar auteurism” now makes nonnas reflexively make the sign of the Cross and superstitiously spit into the dirt but it has been mostly lost to time that it was coined in direct response to what was then an upstart view that Michael Man deserved canonization

tweet by @Caol_MacCormaic that reads, uncs of film twitter: what are some movies that are canonical now but were basically unknown when we were coming up? like Come and See or Possession. inversely: what are some movies or filmmakers that seem to have fallen off? (Takashi Miike comes to mind)

FWWM absolutely did a 180 in critical evaluation during the heyday of Film Twitter. Around the time of its 20th anniversary there was a rush of pieces about it that then snowballed
