Federal taxpayer dollars should stop paying for propaganda videos vilifying the opposition party, and BWI and every other airport should say no. Travelers in airport security lines are captive audiences and roughly half voted for the party being vilified.

"The DOJ will continue engaging tech companies to *eliminate platforms* . . ."

This is your daily reminder Bondi specifically, and MAGA generally, spent the last 4 years accusing the Biden admin of jawboning tech companies to take down content in violation of the 1A.

NEW: “I would bet my left arm that they will tell us that Section 2 is in violation of the Fifteenth Amendment.”

For decades, Section 2 has forestalled attempts to discriminate against minority voters. But tomorrow, SCOTUS will consider declaring it unconstitutional.

One lesson for pro-democracy advocates currently sitting in opposition around the world -- hammer incumbents on corruption and link strengthening liberal democracy (aka accountability) to anti-corruption efforts.

Until recently, it was rare for any DOJ lawyer to have a catchphrase — especially one used on social media to “own” opponents. But Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon does, and her online persona may be hurting her cases. https://bit.ly/4okeA47

By the time you get to the point where the Transportation Secretary is complaining about political protests, you know the administration is truly scared of the public backlash.

New, from me:
Trump's 3 step plan to create a military omniforce
1. Purge - those deemed disloyal
2. Merge - different parts of law enforcement/military
3. Surge - impose the omniforce on Dem cities; instigate unrest; assert dominance; silence dissent

The Education Department has been repurposed to destabilize public education so they can privatize much of it.

The harm inflicted on children in the process is just another casualty of the Project 2025 education agenda.

There are reports that the *entire* office of special education at the US Dept of Education has been cut. These hardworking folks ensure kids with disabilities get equal access to a quality education.

America’s children deserve better than this.

Note that this is a partial grant of the administrative stay only. The court has not ruled on the stay pending appeal.
jonseidel.bsky.social
#BREAKING The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals PARTIALLY grants the stay sought by the Trump Administration.

The stay is GRANTED as to federalization of the National Guard.

But it is DENIED as to deployment.

So deployment still BLOCKED, but troops "do not need to return to their home states."

Trump's deployment of national guard units is designed to provoke civil unrest where none previously existed. This is obvious. And now also a judicially determined fact following presentation of evidence and argument.

The importance of this question cannot be overstated: Trump has been communicating directly with Bondi through Truth Social about indicting his enemies. How this question is resolved is critical.

Important discovery fight taking shape in Kilmar Abrego Garcia's criminal case.

The question: Can the government assert privilege to avoid handing over documents that may be relevant to a defendant's vindictive prosecution claim?

Abrego's counsel says no.

#BREAKING Federal judge in Chicago temporarily blocks the Trump administration from "ordering the federalization and deployment of the National Guard of the United States within Illinois."

How do we operate as a free and open society when the president can swoop into any city, tear apart communities, then use the inevitable unrest resulting from his actions to station standing armies indefinitely?
jaknutson.bsky.social
The DOJ is currently arguing in court that the president can deliberately provoke unrest and incite chaos in a city and then can use that turmoil as justification for deploying the National Guard.
heathercherone.bsky.social
Perry: How do you respond to the plaintiffs' contention that any unrest, any violence is the fault of how federal agents are interacting with members of the public? Does it matter if their conduct is why they can't execute federal laws?
Hamilton: No.
jaknutson.bsky.social
If we accept this argument, we are legitimizing the possibility of the president or his allies sending people into the streets to rile things up to create pretext for a military deployment.

And the people, of course, could be DHS agents, far-right militia groups or just the president's supporters.
