As an Englisman I can say civilised nations don't really do Jesus anymore. It's a bit passé you know

St Martin’s at North Nibley has an elegant south aisle dating from the later 1400s. Slender octagonal piers and capitals carved with various motifs, including this foliate head/green man.
A carving of a “green man” high up on the capital of an octagonal column. Foliage sprouts from the mouth left and right of a moustachioed face. The shot is rather marred by a twist of wire running below the figure.

What’s behind this door at Charlecote in Warwickshire?

I’m pretty certain it’s a spiral staircase. There is a yukka plant on the left and a pink climbing rose on the right. The door is wooden with metal studs. It is surrounded by patterned brickwork of one of the towers at Charlecote.

💐 Leaves from the book of nature, Edinburgh: W.H. Lizars;[184-?]

[Source]
Illustration titled "Leaves from the Book of Nature" showing various species of British butterflies arranged in clusters, each group perched on delicately sketched garden plants. Butterflies display diverse wing patterns and colors, including orange, brown, black, white, blue, and red hues. The detailed artwork combines hand-colored butterflies with fine line drawings of botanical elements, capturing the natural garden habitat. The page includes text identifying the butterflies and publisher information at the bottom. This vintage print highlights the beauty and variety of butterflies commonly found in British gardens.

Continuing my study tour of Hampshire churches my guests enjoyed the iconography of the Tournai Marble Font at East Meon. Here Eve takes the apple.

That's great, John

No idea. A Welsh saint who arrived by coracle and was hot on Marianism? And long nuns.

Before the Saxon Church and law penetrated to the land where the Levels reach the sea. Far far beyond Athelney

Rather dreadful. It and the flags being 'stored' in a tiny inaccessible corner wedged behind the pew.

You Americans seem to think they're handed out like sweeties!

Hmm practically ribbon pointing. Looks like hard cement. Either way the mortar is given precedence and greater importance than the stone with no respect for the lime either.

Nul points from the Minehead contingent.

As I lead my party around the churches of Hampshire I introduced them to Shedfield designed by local architect John Colson who took his inspiration from Ruskin’s The Stones of Venice

Carmunnock Parish Church in Glasgow. Rebuilt in the 1760s, it's possibly based on a pre-reformation religious site. The main entrance is through the small door under the stairs, while the stairs themselves lead up to one of the upper galleries.
