Saw this on Facebook and I can't work out if this is AI, a bot, or an actual human being??! Just incredible.

Oooh.

If this is correct then the CPS may have made the original charging decision *on the basis of the wrong law completely*

If so, that would explain why the evidential test was “met” and then not met when the correct law was applied.

May write further on this, if correct.
Hi David, the guardian politics live blog suggests that the second witness statement was incorrectly dated 2024 and was actually from February 2025, does that alter any of your conclusions if true?
Climate change coverage, more so than any other issue, is the one where I feel like press self-regulation needs to be ditched. I'm a strong supporter of a free and fearless press but this is frankly a matter of global life and death, and certain outlets are just happily publishing irresponsibly.

What the Chinese spying case witness statements reveal

The Crown Prosecution Service appears to have made at least one serious error, while the government's position now makes sense

By me

emptycity.substack.com/p/what-the-c...
Yesterday this blog sought to make sense of the decision to drop the Chinese Spying prosecutions on the information then available, and averred that both the positions of the government and the Crown Prosecution Service did not make sense.

Now the government has published three witness statements, the picture now changes. The government’s position now makes sense, and the CPS looks as if it made at least one serious mistake and possibly another.
I think this is letting senior public affairs chumps off very lightly tbh.
Tugendhat didn’t even back Sunak! He backed Truss. She didn’t even put him in the cabinet. This has the same level of “intelligence” as a junior public affairs chump.

Question: why did they bother?
Windows 10 goes out of support today. My fave useless fact about w10 is that the iconic blue desktop background is a *photograph* - not CGI.

Tiny 'making of' vid here - youtu.be/_2RacX9DgWM...
Three images showing photographers in a studio, standing around a black curtained area with a projector and a 'Windows' logo etched onto a glass pane. The lower image shows a version of the iconic blue windows background, with blue lasers outlining and passing through an angled Windows logos against a dark background.
Surely the very first thing anyone did after starting Windows was to change their desktop background?
there's no real theory selling a solution. They're all stuck hoping productivity growth just magically goes back to pre-2008 levels, without doing anything that different to what's been tried already (not counting Truss). The ones with a (misguided) theory meanwhile are pinning it all on immigrants.
Domestic policy is all based around improving productivity growth to boost public services (or cut spending), and has been since the GFC. But when productivity growth doesn't happen, they all flounder. You can deregulate a bit here, or tackle NIMBYism there, but
Hello but because I am boring and/or bored I was thinking about this, and really isn't this true across the three traditional parties?
I wasn't expecting an Honest Trailer for There Will Be Blood when I logged on this morning, but that's what the Screen Junkies guys have given us 😀

So they've been sanctioned, but no warrants for their arrests?
It's only a relatively modern thing no? Go back to the early 19th C and the Luddites were being shot for rebelling against technology that was not making their lives better.

We've gotten used to tech and improved living standards going hand-in-hand for a while, but maybe we've just been lucky.
Clashed with the football innit.

I'll have a listen tomorrow though! 👍
"No, the 3-4-3 is not inherently tragic and the system is not a metaphor for the protagonist's feuding children."
Is anything ever actually just done properly? Even when they're ostensibly doing something good and useful it still gets fucked up.

I'm guessing taxpayers will now have to pay to fix the mess that taxpayers previously paid for. Meanwhile the ones responsible for the mess are nowhere to be seen.
Unfortunately the government watchdog and the energy companies themselves were asleep at the wheel, and this allowed cowboy builders to do frankly shitty installations that led people to live in damp, mouldy conditions for years. It really is a disgrace.
Where does this stat come from? OECD stats seems to have England (I can't see UK) as above average compared to the rest of the OECD on adult literacy?
Good thing there isn't a housing problem in London...

"The 7 London areas most likely to be abandoned due to flooding by 2050
1. Bermondsey and Old Southwark
2. Vauxhall and Camberwell Green
3. Battersea
4. Peckham
5. West Ham and Beckton
6. Limehouse and Poplar
7. Erith and Thamesmead"
Here's a question: is this Belgium side actually better than their 'golden generation' from c.2016?

That was a massive rat on the pitch!!!!
A rat on the pitch??! Wtf?
John Steinbeck was a terrible writer, and having to study Of Mice And Men for GCSE was a colossal waste of my time.

(I have since also read East of Eden and that was arguably an even bigger waste of my time, but did cement my opinion).
Tell me your most unhinged literary opinion, as a little treat
Eugh, as if you needed more reason to support Wales, Belgium are playing in the Man City kit 🤮

Yes I did switch on late and miss the goal.
