I started watercolor painting this year. I also go through coloring books pretty fast.

Idle prediction: We see crafts like knitting, model airplanes, etc. become more popular because you can't ask Chat GPT to make you a sweater or glue together a P-51 yet and therefore they become more impressive feats relative to other hobbies you can "outsource."

i had to keep an address book because I couldn’t remember any number but my own. I still don’t know any numbers except mine.

If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

"even if it's AI, it's at least true" hard to overstate the damage this stuff is doing to people's brains. we're gonna be cleaning the slop out of archives for decades

Special education isn't a "nice thing to have." It isn't "charity" or doing something to make us feel better. It is a right. The right to a Free Appropriate Public Education is codified in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, signed by a Republican president.

Teach middle school. You’ll figure it out or die trying.

Forgive me if some of you have long ago sorted this out for yourselves. But I just realized that the problem with getting roasted by kids isn’t that they are so good at it — which, okay, some of them are — it’s that the adult is totally hamstrung! You cannot curse them out or break their spirit!

I just finished listening to her interview on the Georgia Politics podcast and whew. She is not good at making a case for herself. Her centerpiece is creating a Sandy Springs school district and it does not seem well thought out.

Oh fuck. I’ve lived that one.

The fact that I understand all of this might explain why I have anxiety.

I like how the news will be like “while the President claiming Portland was ruled by a giant skeleton named Mr Nibbles is not strictly true, it does speak to the anxiety of many Americans”

The bit about having empathy and curiosity about you students applies to ND kids. I promise you that kid has a reason for that behavior that makes perfect sense to them. Ask them about it and see what happens.

Speaking of 6th graders, one of them keeps telling me his left wrist hurts too much to write anything for me. Not only is he right-handed, he uses speech-to-text for most of his work. 🤔

I once taught a kid who thought Rosa Parks was the bad guy because she broke a rule. Every autistic is an individual with a unique perspective on the world. Fairness and justice are common traits, but how they get expressed, or if they get expressed at all, will be different for everyone.
acidlich.bsky.social
Some folks like to talk about how autism gives you an outsized sense of justice and like that’s a fairy tale obviously, there are in fact selfish autistic assholes out there. Look around you
jenniferliang.bsky.social
Yeah, this tracks with my experience teaching autistic teens. Fairness is important, but how you interpret it and what it applies to can vary wildly. Used to teach someone who thought Rosa Parks was the bad guy because she broke a rule. Really struggled with the idea that some rules are wrong.

Ya'll. One of the 6th graders described Australia as "the earth's booty" in his project. I'm dying. 🤣

My husband is from that area and this is accurate. But he's definitely a southerner.

It's also very difficult to tell who is inside one of those things. It's really great strategy for something like this.

The problem with "why is AI discourse dominated by hyperbole and bad faith from all directions, why can't we hear from the sensible middle ground" is that everyone thinks they're the sensible middle ground. Everybody says, me and my friends are the only sane ones here. I guess some of them are right
