The fact that I understand all of this might explain why I have anxiety.

I like how the news will be like “while the President claiming Portland was ruled by a giant skeleton named Mr Nibbles is not strictly true, it does speak to the anxiety of many Americans”

Did you ever get to DragonCon when you were in Atlanta? You would enjoy the vibe, I think.

Every A.I. CEO is like “We invented a robot that can fuck your wife so you have more free time to mow the lawn!”

The bit about having empathy and curiosity about you students applies to ND kids. I promise you that kid has a reason for that behavior that makes perfect sense to them. Ask them about it and see what happens.

Speaking of 6th graders, one of them keeps telling me his left wrist hurts too much to write anything for me. Not only is he right-handed, he uses speech-to-text for most of his work. 🤔

I once taught a kid who thought Rosa Parks was the bad guy because she broke a rule. Every autistic is an individual with a unique perspective on the world. Fairness and justice are common traits, but how they get expressed, or if they get expressed at all, will be different for everyone.
acidlich.bsky.social
Some folks like to talk about how autism gives you an outsized sense of justice and like that’s a fairy tale obviously, there are in fact selfish autistic assholes out there. Look around you
jenniferliang.bsky.social
Yeah, this tracks with my experience teaching autistic teens. Fairness is important, but how you interpret it and what it applies to can vary wildly. Used to teach someone who thought Rosa Parks was the bad guy because she broke a rule. Really struggled with the idea that some rules are wrong.

Ya'll. One of the 6th graders described Australia as "the earth's booty" in his project. I'm dying. 🤣

My husband is from that area and this is accurate. But he's definitely a southerner.

It's also very difficult to tell who is inside one of those things. It's really great strategy for something like this.

The problem with "why is AI discourse dominated by hyperbole and bad faith from all directions, why can't we hear from the sensible middle ground" is that everyone thinks they're the sensible middle ground. Everybody says, me and my friends are the only sane ones here. I guess some of them are right

Only if you are trying to make a bunch of middle school kids groan. Which means that I do it all the time.

This would be a really great chart to share with a media literacy class.
ourworldindata.org
Does the news reflect what we die from?
The image presents a comparison of the leading causes of death in the United States for 2023 and the media coverage these causes receive from three news outlets: The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Fox News.

In the footer, it notes the data sources, indicating that the information is based on media mentions from Media Cloud (2025) and death data from the US CDC (2025) and the Global Terrorism Index, with a clarification that values are normalized to sum to 100%.

A deepfake video of a US military leader criticizing Donald Trump and demanding the release of Jeffrey Epstein-related files has gone viral across platforms.

It is an AI-generated fake, modeled on an image from 2007 of a long-retired lieutenant general.

I’m pleasantly surprised by how many of mine are AI skeptics. Autistics generally have a strong sense of fairness and the idea of a plagiarism machine that vomits lies seems to bother them. Some of them like it as AT or as a toy, but most of the ones old enough to understand are skeptical.

A coworker and I were just discussing how little serious research exists on autistic teaching and learning that isn’t for non verbal kids.
pabloista.bsky.social
Society spends far more money trying to find the causes of autism than it does helping autistic people live better lives.
We don’t need to be “understood” in a lab.
We need to be understood as human beings, right here, right now. 1/3

all discourse aside, there is one machine with consciousness. it's printers. they are alive and conscious and they hate you and they'd take your arm clean off if you let them. never trust a printer.

❌ NO: This is not a legit statement from Coca-Cola. The company hasn't even advertised during the #SuperBowl since 2020.

💡 When a genuine news story creates a lot of online commentary, bad actors thrive on spreading inflammatory falsehoods.

A social media post reads, “I WILL END MY SPONSORSHIP OF THE SUPER BOWL IF THEY LET BAD BUNNY PERFORM AT HALFTIME — Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey allegedly Issued Shocking Ultimatum, NFL’s Response Stuns Millions!” and features an image of Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey and musician Bad Bunny. The News Literacy Project has added a label that says “FALSE.”
