hear me out, THIS time "finding some fictional element from pop culture that mostly women like and deciding it should be destroyed because it's... making society immoral or something" is DEFINITELY going to get us back on the good timeline. we just need these chicks to see reason

So the story of someone with a family history of good who got radicalized to evil young but then later breaks free and becomes good again and then has to atone for his crimes doesn’t have any relevance at all today? None whatsoever?

Americans want to watch charismatic people solve moderately difficult problems on a weekly basis. That’s it. And a group of fomo execs and techbros who don’t watch TV drove one of the most profitable industries in the US off a cliff rather than accept that.
Look what happenes when a TV show releases every year, with more than 8 episodes a season.

I think this gets at the dissonance between people who take Star Wars more literally and allegorically and people who are more tapped into like the mythic and emotional angle

people are always complaining about how lazy “redemption by death” is and now here’s an opportunity to explore living atonement and you don’t want it? they didn’t even give the man dialog in the last third of ep ix but it’s a satisfying ending? COME ON

us for years: they're leaving it open so they can bring him back at a future point

adam driver: I have assembled a team to depict ben solo's return for $100

bob iger: jared leto is one of our finest living actors, don't you agree?
I LOVE that disney did this to themselves by excluding Ben Solo from the force ghost reveal at the end of the movie, inadvertently creating a lore where he’s the ONLY character who’s vanished onscreen but then not come back as a force ghost, making it so easy for him to be alive

the assumption was always that he’d be the most difficult to lure back, so to know they had him locked the fuck in and hype is so baffling it can only be explained by Iger having reddit chud opinions

Well this aged amazingly
This is the best part of an already amazing article.
i'm also heartened to see that the general audience is just as outraged and baffled by this as we are lmao
like on one hand, i feel vindicated that there are still people involved in SW who care about the story and actually seem to realize that the ending was narratively inappropriate & want to change that, BUT ON THE OTHER HAND, i'm so disappointed and angry that it didn't happen...
forget about how cathartic it would be for the story they've been telling for almost 50 years to no longer end in tragedy (and the impact restoring the balance of the force would have on the gffa), i can't even comprehend how allergic to money you'd have to be to pass on this

the amount of writing & storytelling that has happened due to both "Rey deserves to have the dude she wants forever!" AND "I don't think Hermione would want the dude she has forever"

"We took freedom of speech away" should be in every campaign ad moving forward.
Trump: "We took the freedom of speech away because that's been through the courts and the courts said you have freedom of speech, but what has happened is when they burn a flag it agitates and irritates crowds."

Star Wars ending in anything but an absolute unapologetic joyous celebratory happy ever after is an utter mythically incorrect ending, argue with a wall
just floating through life as a floppy little sponge that can't think for itself...
is your moral backbone also made of cheese? because if watching a cartoon or reading a book is enough to completely override your sense of right and wrong, you must not have had any real convictions in the first place.

Anyway as I understand it traditional publishing is struggling and you can decry the fact that they don’t publish what you want to read, but publish writing they know people already like would seem to be a symptom, rather than a cause. Again, I can only recommend touting the stuff you *do* like.
