Incidentally, in my native tongue, the way they phrase it is "carried in the womb for ten months". Our traditional calendar is a bit different from the international one, so may be it's ten months according to that. Hmm.

These are "Kani Konna" flowers (Indian Laburnum). They bloom around April, and are a key element in the traditional solar new year celebrations (around April 14 or 15) for the south Indian state of Kerala.

A supposed "official" explanation for "minus one" that I heard was that it had to do with post world war 2 Japan. That after the war Japan as a nation was set back to zero. And then Godzilla turned it to minus one. Never verified this though.

I tried watching Fist of the Northstar but it wasn't for me. But Hajime no Ippo I love. I've watched all of it, and am up to date on the manga. The whole story is nowhere near done yet, but the anime is pretty great.
