📣 Excited to share this open access study from our team, led by my mentee Dr. Alex Williams. We explored relationships among neighborhood #walkability, neighborhood features, and depression among treatment-seeking #veterans. 👟 @uwmedicine.bsky.social @uwsph.bsky.social doi.org/10.1016/j.ac...

My pal is doing a Halloween fundraiser for our school's families who rely on SNAP. We'll put fliers on our doors and around the neighborhood. Maybe you want to do the same for your local community? Feel free to use the cute canva she put together (linked, editable) 🎃 www.canva.com/design/DAG3H...

Coming up on 20 years of Link in the Rainier Valley. A Sound Transit employee told my neighbors and me that people crash into the light rail because it’s new and unfamiliar. Education won’t work. We should probably stop playing with tech gadgets and fix it.

This (cheesy) voter dialer joke is prompting me to share my phone banking life hack with y’all: I do my physical therapy exercises while I wait for the next voter to answer. 💪🏼 ✅
I also want to note that one of the things that make this transit center so inhospitable is surely the crossing across Rainier but I find that crossing from the east even more treacherous. SO needs fixing.
My family uses air quotes when referring to the Mount Baker "transit center" because it seems like such an afterthought for actual riders. Here's my kid at the "transit center" en route to her soccer game on Sunday. City leaders, read @nondriver.bsky.social's brilliant piece and improve this area!

It is not too late to tell City Council we want more housing. Sign the Seattle YIMBY petition to the Council supporting what we think are the best amendments. The more signatures the greater impact it will have. And send to your friends. actionnetwork.org/petitions/4f...

THREAD. I don't know what there is left to say about the New York Times and Democrats, but documenting their support for authoritarianism still feels important. If there's any chance to walk back from the fascist cliff, we must see why things like today's article are so dangerous.

Seattle's Mayor Harrell holds back transit (again!) doubles down on do-nothingism.

This guy is nonstop when it comes to stopping good things from happening.

Harrell has always hampered good government outcomes and he's not about to quit now. Fire him!

One of the things I have been most wrong about is that I thought once the impacts of climate change manifest we would see bold climate action, especially in scientifically literate progressive cities. Instead we get glossy vision documents, plans, and self congratulation while doing too little.

Prioritize public transit!!
Packed and very late @kingcountymetro.bsky.social buses this am. Kids are late for middle school, Veterans are late for medical appointments, and I’m late for work. We fail our communities when we don’t prioritize public transportation.

Dear @wadems.org: It is ridiculous that we don't have free school meals for all in our state. These are the standards used to determine eligibility. In this state, many well above these levels struggle. With the federal government cutting many benefits, these meals become even more important.

If we’re going to rely as a city on public transportation to get our kids to school, as many cities do, we need to build routes and headways with schools in mind, not just downtown commuters.

The kids, clutching their instruments and the handrails, were strategizing about how to navigate the school so that they weren’t too late for band practice. We have to do better.
My alt text for the photo failed to take. This is a picture of feet, bookbags, and a wheelchair on a super packed and super late King County Metro bus.
