New month, new book thread! My first read of September was Down in the Sea of Angels by Khan Wong.

Wong writes stories that explore the darkest depths of the human soul and somehow he leaves the reader with warm, uplifting, hopeful vibes.

In happier news, it's the 40th anniversary of this masterpiece. I was 16 when it was released, fell in love with it immediately, and it remains one of my favorite albums of all time ever.

I always love those lists of "35 under 35," but as I get older, I find that I would love to know about innovations/art from people over 65. "65 over 65" please. Elders have incredible ideas that are the result of having seen the full lifecycle of previous ideas and learned from it.

My husband is making homemade* hamburger helper (with cavatappi - my favorite pasta shape!) It's one of my favorite comfort meals and I'm so thankful in this moment.

*i.e., not from a box-mix but with actual ingredients: onion, garlic, cheese, cream, tomato paste + the meat and pasta of course

About nine days ago I finished the first draft of a novel - it needs so much work but I'm clear on what to do.

As a palate cleanser I started a novella and in a week have written 21k of a projected 35k. This one's just pouring out. Loving it. 🏳️‍🌈📚🔮

There’s no connection between the two, but every time I hear ‘Till Forever Falls Apart’ by Ashe & Finneas*, it makes me think of ‘Down In The Sea Of Angels’ by @khanwong.bsky.social and I get verklempt over how superb the novel is all over again.
