On the lighter side…

As is the custom, on Delaware Day, the day we became the first state to sign the Constitution, we request the other original American colonies pay tribute. Let’s see how our wish list does today:

When we were deployed, some Afghans risked their lives to help us. Now Trump wants to send them out to be killed by the Taliban.

It’s a disgrace, a betrayal, and a decision that endangers future US troops.
Exclusive: The U.S. government asked a judge to deport a man to Afghanistan, where he expects the Taliban to kill him. Legal experts say the case could have consequences for Afghans the U.S. rescued and promised to support.

GOD: Sleep is one of the very most important things humans do. It will make them feel rested, and be crucial to their ability to function.

ANGEL: Okay, got it.

GOD: And some of them are gonna be REALLY bad at it for no reason lol
My household is on that budget but we have cars, a basement, and a giant freezer to carry bulk purchases, tons of functioning kitchen equipment, and it’s just two of us. It would be a whole other ball game if we were homeless or had kids to feed.

In a striking passage, former officials criticize Biden WH for being skittish about publicizing Labor Dept corporate enforcement actions to avoid “politicizing” them.

When voters don't know who's on their side, it risks "fascists stepping in," one says.

God bless the reporters at the Post, still finding and reporting stories like this.
Denise Mortimer, a former USAID employee, found comfort in drawing sketches of her dog as the agency was dismantled.

Then she kept going, drawing more animals and launching an account describing the work once done by their owners.
Through pet sketches, she tells the stories of former federal workers
It started with the former USAID employee drawing her own dog as the agency was dismantled. Then she kept drawing.

Other outlets are now reporting. First to report tonight was Anna Giaritelli at the Washington Examiner, whose story if anything missed how big the purge was. It's not just five cities; ICE Field Office Directors are being fired in at least a dozen cities, and will be replaced by CBP people instead.

I was commenting on the literal suggestion that the Democratic Party should be setting up food banks of their own, which I don’t think is a good idea. Sounds like we’re on the same page that they should be helping existing programs.
And not everyone can “just go” to a place for help. SNAP can be used to have groceries delivered to people w/o transportation or with disabilities. And it can be used when needed, not just the few hours a week a pantry volunteer is available.
They don’t have the expertise and infrastructure to collect and distribute food as effectively as existing food aid orgs and networks. They can collect and volunteer for those w/o disrupting aid right as the need shoots up.
Yeah, expecting local political operations to suddenly have the capacities of food bank infrastructure and staff is pretty ridiculous. But I’ve definitely seen tons of posts from electeds about how to support neighbors in need and access local resources.

please give money and not food, it takes a not insignificant amount of time to sort and stock donations and money goes very far. also make sure you donate to a place that treats people with dignity and respect and allows access to anyone
as we reach the SNAP cliff just a gentle reminder to do-gooders that the most efficient use of resources is to contribute to organizations that are already established. unless nothing exists in your area (and it likely does whether you know it) now is probably not the time to stand something up

A reminder that losing SNAP will be particularly devastating to those whose disabilities require them to have special diets.

The disability tax is real.

Everything costs more when you’re sick, and special diets are no exception.

Boost & donate to mutual aid. People need help.

It was only one paragraph of the entire work. The “squeeze” is about time & income distribution over a lifecycle.

Yep. And veterans were one of the groups they removed SNAP work exemptions from. So even when SNAP is restored, there are still going to be vets losing access.
