Pretty worrying that the only solution to a blatant violation of the Appropriations Clause is the political one that will not happen. Everybody goes on about how we can’t have a system based on norms but it’s turning out a critical mass views adherence to the rule of law as a norm.

It's clearer by the day that Columbia making a deal with Trump in July was a catastrophe for higher education as a whole. It gave terrible people a bottomless appetite for extortion. The other eight universities must follow MIT's lead.

Also, the US will never support accountability unless we can make this more toxic than it is now, which should involve a concerted effort to make Stephen Miller's pathologies visible, especially now that Trump is feeble and Wormtongue is pushing him to do especially illegal things.

I can't emphasize how important it is for people to understand that unless something FAR BIGGER than an election win happens, this is a pipe dream.

The structure of this lede is quite instructive. Use action words ("slams") and extensive quotes to amplify Johnson's heinous lie, then, rather than plainly stating that this is complete bs, the reporters avers that his statement "drew condemnation from some Democrats."
