For serious though, Honk in Camberville is one of the best community/activist events I know of. Very serious respect for the activist brass band world.
Let's normalize Democrats *not* running for office in their late 70s! Because, to continue with the MA-Sen case, if Markey doesn't run we have a deep bench here of people better than Moulton who might get in. Age isn't the only thing between Markey & Moulton, but it isn't irrelevant, either.
I think this piece misdiagnoses the issue. As a person who is 100%, gleefully, voting for Ed Markey over Seth Moulton and looks forward to Moulton's district getting an upgrade, I still wish Markey wasn't running -- and that we'd have better choices than Moulton in a primary.
Some of the best Democratic politicians are old; some of the worst are young. The establishment/center-left is addressing the youth argument by running blah young people. So time to move on from talking about age alone. newrepublic.com/article/2018...
Not All Old Candidates Are Joe Biden, and Not All Young Ones Are Great
All things being equal, sure, Democrats ought to lean toward younger candidates. But there are many times when all things aren’t equal.

Literally nothing coming from the Pentagon, DHS, or DOJ should be considered credible unless backed up by an independent source outside of government. (This, for the record, is a huge problem!)
Of all the things that didn’t happen

here’s more context to the videos DHS is putting out from Chicago.

That what happens when you rush out a bunch of bullshit to make KIDNAPPING A CHILD look legit.
At a press conference today, the mayor of Everett said there was a knife found in the child’s possession but *no* gun. I followed up with ICE and asked if they stand by the screenshot shared yesterday. Spokesperson said DHS was working on a response. Five hours later, still nothing.
This is the response I received from ICE when I inquired about the 13-year-old they abducted from Everett, Mass. on Friday:

I’ve already unsubscribed from the Mills spam texts three times today, and there’s a lot of time left
The good news is that the DSCC and the establishment clowns haven't learned anything, so they're probably pissing off a ton of Maine voters and donors by spamming the shit out of people
Here’s why you were barraged with spam today.
I haven’t even formed any particular feelings about Platner, but I simply can’t countenance someone running for a first term in their late 70s.

As a reminder: these kinds of levels and exams are completely made up and typically children who go through traumatic events (earthquake, hurricanes, war) are considered to have experienced a disrupted education. We've given our children no such grace.
I’m not wild about people running for reelection to six-year terms in their late 70s. Running for a first six-year term in your late 70s? Nah, thanks.

I’ve been sitting with this the last few hours. It’s really hitting me just how fucking depraved you have to be to respond to an inquiry about an abducted child with a screenshot of a post on elon musk’s hellsite smearing this kid who has no ability to defend himself. It’s unfathomable.
I saw someone describing an event where a church helped people copy their documents and laminate the copies so they'd have something to carry that was sturdy enough.

FYI: If you know of intersections of religion and pushback to ICE/DHS in general, but especially Chicago, feel free to drop me a line.

I find myself remembering the time (maybe around 2008? 2009?) Stoller posted a long self-pitying thing about being punched in the face, trying to make it a grand statement on violence and probably underestimating how many people enjoyed the thought of him being punched.
I love nor'easters except the time one hit Cape Cod on Memorial Day when we were trying to be on the beach and in the pool and it was in the 40s with driving rain and wind that would push you around. That one sucked.
Standing in Cambridge waiting for the Honk parade today.

It was approaching -- audible drums, police cars visible to close the street.

A guy approached me & asked what was going on. I said Honk parade, & he visibly relaxed. "Oh, something good!"

People are just walking around with that fear...

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

I am looking for a history-themed Halloween costume for my kid and came across a Prince Hall costume. Which is not something I would have anticipated existed.

The problem with “virtue signaling” as a rhetorical framework was always that it pressed you not toward deeper and more sincere acts of virtue, but away from goodness as a goal at all.

It simply should not be possible for the president to repeatedly claim that a major city is burning without a wall of live standups happening in that city clearly demonstrating that it is not

Side note: lest you think this is a one-off, a sizable group of Catholic nuns, priests and lay leaders have announced plans to do the same thing — offer communion to detainees in the Broadview ICE facility — tomorrow.
NEW: Clergy are at the Broadview, IL ICE facility today — where clergy have been shot w/pepper balls in recent days.

UMC minister Rev. Hannah Kardon, one of those shot w/pepper balls in the past, among those asking to give communion to those detained. Attendees (who sent photos) say police declined
