I want to purchase a decent/good folklore book, but I'm always unsure which one to get. I have The Little Book of Folklore by Kitty Green, but as the title suggests it is sort of limited in variation and amount (128 pages)

Deranged (1974) d. Jeff Gillen, Alan Ormsby
Inspired by the Ed Gein story and in my humble opinion far better than the eight hour version I watched recently. Interesting comments in the extras by @laurencerharvey.bsky.social about celebrity culture and the glorification of real life killers.

The films that almost were. Unproduced, unfinished, or unseen-these screenplays open new chapters in film history.

Unrealized visions by Chaplin, Sturges, De Palma, Mamet, Herzog, Cohen & Rubin.

Resurrected.

More coming soon.

This is the prequel to the 2020 film (so, yeah, I watched them in the wrong order), but I really enjoyed this. It's no classic, but in Nakata's capable hands it's an entertaining film, with some genuine creepiness & scares, and a sweetly sentimental climax. Recommended Halloween viewing! 🎃🎃🎃🎃

Rewrite!! Big recommend from me -- a 2025 time loop movie with a script by the time loop king River/Beyond Infinite Two Minutes writer...that's also an overt Obayashi homage!

Super reflective and thoughtful and generous, totally love it

The Mysteries of Myra (1916)

A mostly lost silent serial about a clairvoyant named Myra whose life is threatened by a Satanic cult called the Black Order.

The cult was inspired by the Golden Dawn, the secret society of practitioners of the occult led by Aleister Crowley - BOTD in 1875

I read Peter Thiel’s essay on Alan Moore’s Watchmen and it unquestionably proves that piss poor media literacy is foundational to this recent rise of fascism.

Yorgos Lanthimos, Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons rejoin forces in BUGONIA, playing tonight in London at the LFF. This darkly goofy, paranoid, sci-fi mystery comedy is a rare example of a western remake that surpasses a Korean original (Save The Green Planet). Recommended!

My ★★★★ review from Venice:
Bugonia – Venice review
Yorgos Lanthimos remakes 2003’s Korean genre gem Save the Green Planet! for an age of managed decline, and produces a darkly comedic fable about the end of the world… or is it? ★★★★ Two young men (…

THE BLUNDERS (1976): A series of PIFs starring the titular family of careless drivers. Each episode veers from naff comedy to graphic horror as the unlucky victim is sent head-first through the windscreen. Extra point for the creepy 70s-era letchery in this episode, too.
