A black square with fourteen different books covers on it. They range from pastels with cartoon women on them to dark, fiery tones with yellow police tape. At a glance you can tell a lot of these are romance and some look like they involve murder.

The covers are for all of Liana Brooks's major titles.

When you're writing YA or adult fiction you want at least three antagonists.

Antagonist 1: The Page 1 trouble maker
Antagonist 2: The person the hero thinks is the evil villain of the piece
Antagonist 3: The Big Bad Boss at the end

The Cailleach, of Celtic myth, is winter’s Faerie Queen and ancient hag. At Samhain she strikes the earth with her blackthorn staff, withering fields and forests to sleep. Her breath brings frost; her touch, stillness. Until Imbolc, she rules with ice and shadow. #FolkloreSunday

Alright, that took way too long to process. First time using Deep Sky Stacker, not sure I can do much better until the comet comes closer with my gear, maybe ill head on out after No Kings next Saturday and get a shot of it closer to the milky way.

She was the person who taught us the term “social justice,” long before social media. Catholic work to combat inequality and oppression has a long and surprisingly persistent history; you love to see it.

In my Catholic all-girls’ high school, the nun who taught our history of religion class once brought in a sub for a week because she was flying to DC to protest the School of the Americas. “I may be longer if I get arrested,” she said nonchalantly, raising all our teenage eyebrows.

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

I'm painting a little series of colorful autumn minis. These will be added to my shop sometime next week. Sign up for my emails on my website if you'd like to have early access.

Photo of a hand holding an original autumn landscape painting by Tisha Mark, "Autumn Mini No. 2502" 4"x4" oil on Ampersand Gessobord (2025). The painting shows an autumn landscape where the leaves are turning red, orange, and gold, and the grass is starting to turn a lighter shade of green. There is a body of water reflecting colors from the leaves as well as colors from the sky which is purple, peach, and blue. A paint palette with puddles of oil paint and a paintbrush and palette knife are visible in the background.

Here I am. Once again. I'm out of archaeologists.

We matched 576 groups w/archaeologists, leaving 13 groups unmatched. This brings me pain! We've never run out of scientists like this before. 598 requests for one category is A LOT. But still.

Archaeologists 🥺

Worth reading, even if I am a lot more skeptical towards Bluesky than before and the general decentralization movement in technology, but yeah, as highlighted in the article, Twitter is genuinely monstrous and the effects it can have on users is awful

There is a difference between the best book you can write right now and the best book you will ever write. Write what you can now. Worry about your "best ever" when you die.

Tired of photos of the mid-latitude aurora on October 10-11? If so, avoid this thread because I finally got a full night's sleep and got my photos onto my computer so I'm sharing them along with my recollections (as an amateur photographer who's never shot space sky before)

"What do you like?"

"You."

I gave him an icy glare that made handsy folk on cruises back off. "I meant to eat."

His smile turned wicked.

"For dinner."

"Cher..." He shook his head. "You need to stop making it so easy."

This was starting to sound like a bargain with the fey. Fairies had been a popular topic back when I was in high school and I knew accepting gifts was dangerous.

That probably didn't hold true for accepting gifts from Australians, but you could never be too careful.

My lungs burned, begging for air.
Everything was growing misty. Diluted.
I blinked, fighting for one more second of life. One more view of the world.
A shark tail was silhouetted against the distant surface lights.
