As the current national administration seeks to prop up coal -- a highly polluting and uneconomic technology of the past -- the global economy and investors are sending a very different signal about where the future of energy is headed:

Renewables overtake coal as global electricity leader
It's the first time sources like wind and solar generated more power than coal over a six-month period.

This is smart:

Resistance that is easy to organize and easy-to-remember is what’s going to scale up and actually last.

Well done. 🙌

I really feel like we need to retire the word “Zionist” because I don’t think common usage is accurate, no matter your political perspective.

This is such a clever idea on taking kids to museums/galleries
www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle...
Nadia from London has an idea that sounds such fun you'll be booking a day out asap.
"I've always loved museums," she says,
"but they can be overwhelming for children. For decades now, I've done something called 'playing postcards'
We do
the museum backwards, visiting the gift shop first. Each child gets to choose three postcards. Then they take it in turns to find that particular artwork in the museum and give us a little information about the piece from the details on the postcard, or from any gallery plaque. At the end of this treasure-hunt-style activity, we vote for our favourite in the cafe."

Dems floated a narrow bill to fund the military, which can’t move because the House isn’t in session. Meanwhile, DoD is now going to spend funds not appropriated by Congress to ensure military paychecks continue.

POTUS now both commands and provisions the military. Unconstitutional and SO dangerous
The Office of Management and Budget sent a notification to Congress about their intent to use research and development funds to pay members of the military, two sources with direct knowledge tell NBC News.
A spokesperson for the OMB confirmed to NBC
News that it plans to use the research and development funds and that there are two years' worth of funds available within the Department of Defense.

Breakfast: one specific granola

Lunch: one specific quiche (salmon, feta, tomato and bell pepper)

Dinner: one specific homemade pizza (tuna, bell pepper, olives)

I can get a bit more adventurous, but these are “safe base”. These are my go-to’s that I know will work when I’m in a hard place.

The problem is that we show up one Saturday out of 52 a year (or maybe twice that).

Any successful protests or boycotts are *ongoing* until the thing stops.

We just don’t have the stamina. Need to build that muscle after being out of practice for so long.

Hitting
isn’t the only
way we abuse;
it doesn’t take
physical contact
to cause psychological,
emotional harm;

thrown
words
become knives
meant to
pierce
the sense of self,
meant to disempower,
meant to control,
belittle;

words
hit
like
falling
on concrete

Working memory is a major barrier for people with ADHD. It's more prone to being erased, overwritten, or overwhelmed.

Expecting ourselves to follow changing or complex instructions without support, especially in a chaotic or distracting environment, is often a recipe for missing something

Sometimes I pause and wonder what would happen if all the time and energy and especially $$$ that has gone into AI in education the past 2 years would have been redirected towards tangible things we already know works to make classrooms and schools better.

Oh well.

I am writing this because it has swiftly become crystal clear to me that many people have no idea what is happening or how this works. Here is a thread for non-academics to put into context what just happened to Dr. Mark Bray, a fellow historian.

Sen. Roger Marshall: "October 18 is when the protest gets here. This will be a Soros paid-for protest for his professional protesters. The agitators show up. We'll have to get the National Guard out. Hopefully it will be peaceful. I doubt it."

I just tried to do a lit review yesterday on AI in the classroom and was absolutely flummoxed by the slop out there pushing AI as if it was written by… AI. 🤔🤷‍♀️

I guess I was naive, but the number of people willing to cede their work and their scholarship to a machine will never cease to shock me.

A striking thing about articles I’ve read claiming to “study the effects” of generative AI on student writing skills and consumption of information is that (1) they nearly always find the effects are negative and (2) most “conclusions” are still written assuming that we must use AI, for some reason.

Good night, friends.
Tonight was deeply painful.

We at CDC do this work because we care.
It’s long hours, often feeling overworked and not enough pay, but we do it because we want to make the world a better place.
