Overheard train chat between two tough-looking youths:

Youth one: “I got déjà vu, man. I saw this dog and felt like I’d seen it before.”

Youth two: “That’s not déjà vu. You just saw a dog twice.”

The writer notes that there's been a significant shift in attitudes since the coalition took power and Peters and Seymour stepped up their war on progressive thought.

smurfs are the size they are because the lack internal structure. they are closer to gelatinous lichens than they are true fungi. they cannot grow larger without dedicated vasculature in our current oxygen environment. millions of years ago when there was more oxygen they were substantially larger.

It still saddens me to my core that so many of us are OK with asking the majority if the minority should have a voice. Talk about stacking the deck. #nzpol

MĀORI WARDS
40% of areas chose to keep Māori wards. Some by a wide margin.

A better result than I expected, given the demographics and embedded racism in our country.

In areas that lost, I'd love to know whether the numbers have improved since any previous referendum.

Aotearoa on the move.

Diane Keaton in Annie Hall for me first watched as a teen gave me a taste of a kind of cool I'd never seen before - the wardrobe was eye opening. I remember playing around with dad's ties and Simone's vests & some baggy jeans plus a beret

Thank you for inspiring me to try being different

"She is the dream actress that every director should have." —Gillian Armstrong

Rest in peace to the great Diane Keaton, fearless and unique, a dream actress indeed. 📷 Norman Seeff, Los Angeles, 1975
Black and white shot of Diane Keaton in a tank top with her hands behind her head. I like this photo for its simplicity; you can feel her personality.

If you're in Dunedin the Night Shelter here is out fundraising and really needs help. We have a surging homelessness problem that is being exacerbated by this dreadful coalition Govt.

The Olive green areas are councils where citizens voted down Māori wards (the little blue blob in the middle is Kirikiriroa, which voted by a whisker to retain theirs).
Coincidentally those Olive green areas also pretty accurately represent land confiscated by the crown after the Waikato wars.

Tory Whanau missing out on a Māori ward seat sucks, but it has an obvious brightside: she's free to run for parliament in 2026 if she wants to.

I cant even tell you the number of public interest (and interesting) stories about the local election that journos wanted to do, but couldn't because of editors..

Shout out those that did do coverage, esp The Spinoff

Closer to $800 a month for gas and power for our warm, insulated 4 bedroom home with 6 people living in it in the middle of winter.

The Waikato is damp and wet so a dryer is a must if you want dry clothes.

I definitely breathed a sigh of relief when spring came round.

I remember when asset sales were gonna lead to mum and dad shareholders and now we just have mum and dad paying $500 power bills in the winter. The right wing ideology is a scam. It’s a pyramid scheme. It’s useless. It improves nothing.
