A haunted house but it’s losing your health, career, marriage, ability to leave the house to an incurable disease people refuse to believe in, & all the normal things you’d do to grieve like cry, exercise, socialize, make art, make your disease a thousand times worse so you just have to lie there

And perhaps you say, "But I don't know what chatGPT knows!" And you are wrong. You know so much more. You know context. And you know when you are lying to yourself and making up info or at best pondering hypotheses as you mull over various things you've heard before.

Makes sense. Fascism is an ideology not of workers but of the frustrated upper and middle classes which in practice, historically, has primarily served the interests of big capital. Wherever the far right has come to power, working-class people (and particularly working-class women) have suffered.
"more than one in seven Australians now live below the poverty line. One in six children. That’s 3.7 million people — entire suburbs quietly doing their best to hold on. After the removal of COVID supports, rents soared while wages, as they have for much of the past 15 years, stayed still." 💔

A chance to dream beyond survival

A system that has been gamed to sustain the imbalance. Tax settings reward those who have property, wage stagnation as profits climb, social security payments, have become a tightrope that leaves people one unexpected complication away from crisis.

Australia’s biggest problem isn’t the next crisis — it’s the growing gap between those who sail through it and those who drown in it. If we can afford inequity, we can afford to fix it. www.thespencerstreetend.com.au/p/built-for-...

Great thread on food apartheid, crip tax, and government eugenicist social policies.

Many of the policies discussed in this thread are also relevant in Australia.

While we don’t have a program like SNAP. We do have many who cannot use food banks and soup kitchens for the reasons below.

#AusPol
SNAP benefits make it possible for the many disabled people (especially those who are multiply marginalized) relying on them to buy specific foods necessary to stay alive and stable. Food pantries/food banks often do not offer food reliably or at all that meets specific dietary requirements.

Disabled people must spend more money to stay alive. On average, disabled people must earn 28-29% more to have the same standard of living as otherwise comparable nondisabled people. These added costs of living with a disability (the "crip tax" or "disability tax") show up in all parts of life.

Okay, subsidies aside, the responsibilities of the *employers* aside,

what are the relevant *Unions* doing?

Are Unions offering classes in renewable technologies to their members - properly looking after their long-term interests?

'Cause 100+ yrs ago, British Unions were educating their members!

‼️ALP using ICE tactics in Australia: "authorities have been conducting night-time and dawn raids on those within the cohort who have been granted a 30-year visa for Nauru"

‘JobSeeker… "the dole" — is currently below all poverty measures and is far below the average of similar nations, leaving 830,000 recipients with extremely low incomes’ - we should hang our heads in shame - it’s also economic nonsense #AusPol

#NDIS strikes again:

Letter received today, October the 28th, dated the 16th, saying that new medical information and reports from therapists have to be received by the 30th.

This is one example of the impossible demands placed on disabled people by the NDIA, and we are powerless to stop it.

Went to a prayer service tonight at St. Mary of the Lake, where they have cardboard cutouts throughout the church representing parishioners afraid to come to Mass because of ICE.
For me, I think the "feeling" of laziness usually comes when I almost feel up to doing something but actually need rest. True "Laziness" seized to be possible long before I stopped being able to wash my hair, or read longform or stand long enough to cook a meal from scratch.
