Yeah we've fully normalized being a "nerd" or a "geek," but in the 1980s, it was one of the worst things you could be. It didn't mean "quirky person who enjoys franchises." They used it like we use "incel" today.

I'll go one level deeper... no kid I know in the '80s had actual theatrical one sheet movie posters hung on their walls. That was not really a thing yet! It'd be more like pictures from a movie magazine that they'd cut out or maybe an insert promotional poster of an actor from a movie they liked.

Though The Thing was far from “unknown,” as an 80s kid, I’d like to note that it was definitely not at the popularity level you’d think of now, even on a cult level yet, even as every other new movie set in the 80s puts a poster for The Thing on the wall of one of the kids or teen characters.

Dylan was basically a hostile, arrogant dork no one liked, but he just happened to write the greatest songs ever at an extremely prolific rate. He's ONLY Bob Dylan because of his insane, prodigious talent, not because he was so charismatic or whatever.

I'm honestly not sure where Hollywood is at with Sean Penn? There was a while there when he was very infamous and I would say approaching cancelled, but is that still in effect? I honestly don't know, I am just asking questions. But if not, I feel like he's getting a nom.
