A special post from England. This Long Eared Owl was photographed from 10 metres away in Northumberland by my spouse's cousin who is quite an accomplished bird photographer. He lives in Newcastle.

A few years ago I had booked a direct flight Toronto to London, UK. On board just before takeoff the captain announced that we'd be stopping in Montreal because AC cancelled a direct Montreal to London flight due to too few passengers. Naturally we got to Heathrow late & I missed my connection.

Ontario's farmland is a precious resource that is vital to protect.

This #OntarioAgricultureWeek I'm feeling thankful for the land that feeds us and the farmers that steward it while growing our food.

While he was referring to the waterfront in Kingston, Jamaica, @brenttoderian.bsky.social's comment applies to many cities and their challenges in Canada: "The cost of inaction is greater than the cost of transformation. You can't afford not to act."

NEW: “The cost of inaction is greater than the cost of transformation,” Toderian said. “You can’t afford not to act.”

This article does a pretty good job capturing the energy, urgency, and (some of the many) ideas in my very blunt “Call To Action” this week in Kingston, Jamaica. Follow-thru is key!

So why didn't Trump apply more pressure much earlier?

Did you know the first thanksgiving celebrated by Europeans in North America happened in Canada?
Or that the Indigenous celebrated autumn harvests long before Europeans arrived?
Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving a month earlier than the United States?
This is the story.

🧵1/10
A festive Thanksgiving dinner table featuring a roasted turkey as the centerpiece, surrounded by an array of dishes including green beans, stuffing, sliced ham, and a pumpkin pie. The table is decorated with pumpkins, sunflowers, candles, and autumnal flowers, with wine glasses and plates set for a meal.

As if the US would ever allow conversion of CDN$ assets including cash at par with US$! That would enrich every Canadian by around 40% as CDN$1 = US$0.712 as I write. Such polls ought to have some semblance of reality.

Tonight's game is make or break for Blue Jays. Should Yankees win, I don't have much confidence that Blue Jays will win decider. But what do I know? 🤔

The entire Ford regime is corrupt but its sycophantic supporters don't care. Another reason why proportional representation is essential to enhance our democracy and prevent such overt favouritism.

The handshake deals between friends and donors is constantly being found out, but for some reason this damn government keeps getting re-elected.

Read this gift article that @markgongloff.bsky.social has provided. It refutes the phony arguments made by Trump & friends with their climate change denying ideology.

This chart from @hausfath.bsky.social is one of those, directly refuting at least 2 standard climate-denier talking points we've heard from Trump recently

It's hard to see which firms will prosper in the long term due to AI given the massive investments required directly and indirectly. Early winners may not maintain their advantage.

A trillion dollars gambling on nonsense when we don’t have enough housing, health care or electricity, not to mention decarbonizing quickly enough to avoid the worst of climate change. Feels like the endgame could involve guillotines
