I’ve decided it was time to have an account just for my #art.

You’ll find an eclectic mix of nature, cricket, netball, portraiture, chronic illness & disability… & whatever else takes my fancy that day!

My main medium is digital art, plus some photography & watercolour.

It's ok if you are new to alt text or aren't confident with how to use it yet. Just give it a try!

Alt text has been around for decades. It used to be popular on dial-up when pictures wouldn't load, instead of just having a blank square. It's the same thing now. Used by people with vision issues.

Why use alt text?
A series of 6 illustrated panels with different alt text uses and explanations.

Slow internet
Alt text is shown in place of unloaded images.
A cartoon of a blank square with some words where the picture should be.

Findability
Alt text helps to search content.

Screen readers

Great thread on food apartheid, crip tax, and government eugenicist social policies.

Many of the policies discussed in this thread are also relevant in Australia.

While we don’t have a program like SNAP. We do have many who cannot use food banks and soup kitchens for the reasons below.

SNAP benefits make it possible for the many disabled people (especially those who are multiply marginalized) relying on them to buy specific foods necessary to stay alive and stable. Food pantries/food banks often do not offer food reliably or at all that meets specific dietary requirements.

It’s an odd feeling to have scored such a big total, but feel like it could have been 50+ more if Litchfield and/or Gardner had stayed in longer.

If the last 10-15 years of women's cricket seemed to develop at a dizzying rate, it will look like nothing compared with what's about to come.

If most boards don't find ways of rapidly professionalising their domestic systems, they will very quickly fade from being remotely competitive.

Also if you think the Australian era of dominance (which hasn't seen back to back ODI World Cup wins since 1988) got a bit samey, you're about to see what happens when a multi-billion dollar machine goes up against a sport in which domestic players in most nations don't have professional contracts.

Unfortunately I must sleep. So likely won’t hear much/any of the chase innings.

Must remember in the morning to not internet until I’ve caught up to avoid spoilers. Always a challenge to remember when half asleep. But setting a cricket related lock screen does help me 😅
